l stayed here before back in 2020/2021 and ALL the staff were excellent then in their various roles. Once again, November 2024, excellence all round to ALL the staff. Very well chosen and trained but it is also down to their special demeanour too. Room, cleanliness, food and drink very high standard - yummy tasty, AND above all KIND and HELPFUL. WELL DONE THE COPTHORNE PLYMOUTH and Thank You!!! l have already recommended them to family and friends and will definitely continue to do so. Other hotels/businesses need to be taking a good few leaves out of this Hotel's book! May l add, l usually write a thank you card or something - rarely bother with giving public reviews but l had to this time. GSW

All in all great visit for Christmas Day and lunch,which was a bit short on the vegetables hence the 4 score and not 5.however just my opinion but staff were brilliant and it was very well organised and a well stocked bar.we stayed the night and the room was spacious and clean,breakfast was very good with lots of choices. Would definitely stay again. Thanks too all the staff for the hard work good cheer on Christmas Day.

My wife had an all-day business event at The Box on Monday the 4th. We stayed for two nights (Sunday and Monday) in a Club room at the Copthorne Hotel. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on the second night. First, the positives. The hotel's location is very good. It has secure, reasonably priced underground parking. Our room was clean and tidy, with clean, fresh bedding, towels and robes. The bed was large and comfortable. All areas of the hotel that we saw were clean. Breakfast in the restaurant was fine, with a good selection. Almost all of my interactions with the staff at the hotel were pleasant and positive. I spoke to people at the reception, a member of the housekeeping team and restaurant staff. All except one were polite, friendly and helpful. Other reviews mention that the hotel is a bit dated, and - in fairness - it is. In places it could do with some minor touch-ups. I didn't mind that much, considering the price and other positives mentioned so far. We ate dinner in the restaurant on the second night. It was fairly quiet in there. The service was predominantly good, but the behaviour of one server slightly spoilt things. When she brought us our starters she put the plates down roughly and just walked off without any pleasantries. I went to the toilet after we had finished our main course and while I was away from the table she asked my wife if we were ready to order dessert. My wife's reply (naturally) was that she was waiting for me to come back. Immediately upon my return the server approached and asked again. I had just picked up the menu, so I began to say "Can we please have a few minutes more?" She turned and walked away so abruptly that my last few words were spoken to her back. It came across as a bad attitude on her part, and it was surprising, considering that we had enjoyed pleasant conversations with the manager and the other server present. As for the food: the calamari (our starter) was dry and tough. For our mains, I had the lamb shank, which was nice, but my wife's pan-fried sea bass seemed to have been steamed, not fried. The desserts were the most disappointing part. I had the chocolate truffle, which was OK (at best). My wife had the blackcurrant cheesecake, which tasted unpleasant and had a strange texture. Consequently it went back almost untouched. I gave the manager our feedback before we left the restaurant. It was graciously and apologetically received, but did not result in anything being taken off the bill, which (I felt) would have been an appropriate gesture. Would we stay again? I would consider it, but my wife would be reluctant. And if we did stay, we would probably not eat dinner in the restaurant again.
