Slightly dated room, bed a bit hard. Stayed in a Premier Inn the next night for less and that bed was luxury in comparison. I was in room 205 which is quite a tortuous rote to reach. Lift to floor 3 then through some doors and up and down to reach these rooms. The breakfast was pretty good to be fair, which brings this from a 3 to a 4 review.

My family and i stayed at this hotel during a coach trip for 2 nights. On arrival, our room was very cold, which is understandable as it is an old building with old windows. As time went on, though, the heating must have been turned up, as the room felt warmer for the remaining days that we were there. Apart from that, the rooms were clean, spacious, and had a modern bathroom . The hotel is a bit of a maze when it comes to finding your room, but I like that there's history to this hotel, and that it stays true to the traditional decor. There is a lift in this hotel. It is central, but when we went, there wasn't much going on outside. Therefore, we spent most of the time in the hotel bar, where the barmen were friendly and there was a relaxed atmosphere. On the first evening we had food in the restaurant and we were allocated a section of the restaurant which was already full. When we informed a staff member, they expected us to split up and sit separately. Baring in mind, there were a row of tables that were not being used. We were told these were reserved for others. For the whole evening, we never saw anyone sitting on them tables. When we said that it wasn't acceptable, we were told to take the cutlery from the other tables that had people sitting at them to bring them to one of the tables not being used, as they didn't have enough cutlery. I wasn't impressed with that and found it not very professional. The following two occasions, we used the restaurant, and we didn't have this problem, and they had a table reserved for us. On a positive note, the evening meals and breakfast were all good, and the rest of the restaurant staff were friendly. Overall, we had a good stay at this hotel.
