The welcome was great, very friendly. Our rooms, 370, was snug. These rooms are on the top floor with sloping ceilings and I banged my head a few times. The towels were more like large hand towels rather than bath towels. Breakfast was okay, plenty of choice but some items were a bit dry. We had dinner one night, which was okay.

“Mediocre and Lazy”

Spent 3 nights at Glynhill which included a tribute night and it was not great from beginning to end. Initially I had booked a two night stay - the Friday and Saturday as it was being used as a stop over following a holiday on Skye. However, whilst holiday planning I went back onto the Glynhill site to get the postcode for Sat Nav purposes and noticed that there was a 90's night advertised for the Saturday. Thinking that would be fun I decided to extend the visit by an extra night. I rang the hotel to do this, and was met with 'Your booking has been cancelled'. Completely caught off guard I asked what they meant, and I was told my booking had been cancelled a couple of weeks ago 'online'. Obviously I had not cancelled, and I had made the original booking months previously. I asked who had cancelled - no response, and I also asked if it had been cancelled why had I not received an email confirming said cancellation - no response. But, I decided to put it down as 'one of those things' and rebooked the whole stay (now more expensive per night than my original booking) and paid the deposit on the 90s night tickets. Swing in closer to the date and I ring up to pay the balance on the 90s night tickets - as advised. I went through the whole process, and their card machine crashed. Reception lady said this happens sometime and could she just ring me back in 5 minutes when it was up and running again. No problem I said - and then a fortnight later when I still hadn't received the phone call I called them back and paid them. Yet again, no confirmation email, no evidence I had paid anything. Arrived at the hotel. It looks nice from the outside, and some parts inside look quite nice - but a lot of it was jaded, and there were health and safety issues all over the place. Two of the 'accidents waiting to happen' I observed was a broken metal tread on a staircase (first set of steps behind white door leading away from bar/reception) and the wires for fairy lights travelling across the floor in the restaurant by the windows. Our room was 'okay', bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean and well equipped. But it was extremely dark in there as directly outside the window was a roof that blocked out 90% of the light - we literally had a view of a roof and nothing else. The lighting choices in the room were limited, but that would probably would have been okay if the window wasn't so blocked. Food for breakfast was good, reasonable choices and nice. The 90s night... When we booked it was a 90s night, by the time we arrived it had become a 80s & 90s night, and then the actual music was 70s and early 80s with the odd 90s thrown in. It was not brilliant - and definitely not what we had paid for. It was supposed to be a 'nostalgia' trip for nights out in our teens and 20s, turned out to be a nostalgia trip to family weddings as a primary school child. Not fun. The food for the tribute night was 'okay'. We went in blind, didn't know what was on the menu as no information had been provided. Turned out there were no options and you got what you were given, meaning that ultimately I couldn't eat half of it. The efficiency of the table service though was excellent - this must be the area the hotel excels in, can't fault it at all. Our final evening we booked a table in the restaurant, thought we would treat ourselves. Staff were friendly, but our drinks we ordered (in the near empty restaurant) took forever to arrive - the young girl serving us had to go and chase the drinks up. We ordered food and it was really nice, so nice we decided we would look at the dessert menu. However, 35 minutes AFTER finishing eating (again, in the near empty restaurant) and having watched the restaurant staff stood chatting to each other, messing around, and doing anything except having come over once since serving the food to us almost an hour previously we gave up on the idea and went over to the staff ourselves, paid and left. Our final morning we went down to breakfast for an early start as we had a long drive home. We went to the 'wait here' area - nobody there. Waited... Kitchen staff member directly opposite us, leant up the wall on her phone - but ignored us. Waited a bit longer - still nobody. Gave up and went and got breakfast anyway. Woman turns up a few minutes later and we gave her the room details then. We stay at quite a few hotels that cost similar ££ and offer similar services. On a scale of 1 to 10, I found that this place for me came in at around a 5. There were positives - nice food, comfortable bed, friendly (when engaged) staff, but there were also rather large negatives - standard of service, jaded condition of hotel, dark and hot rooms. I wouldn't recommend anything above a single overnight stay here - and next time I personally am in the area I will be staying elsewhere.

Attended a tribute night for friends birthday staff friendly and welcoming, music/ entertainment was good, the meal was nice considering the overall cost for tribute night I was not expecting much and after all it was the company I went for. Overall it was a great wee night until I saw the prices for drinks just as well I was not planning to have many because at those prices I would not encourage them also the price on website was less than what the charged and male bartenders response was there has been an increase (please ensure info is up to date). Overall a nice hotel for gatherings, because entertainment etc is all planned and pool facilities available we have booked the New Year package
