Beautiful location and welcoming reception and comfortable rooms. However the bar was chaotic, food orders they said were half an hour but a good hour. Had run out of bread, no salmon with the salad and the chicken curry only had 2 pieces of chicken in they said the hotels new policy not to have any waste but plenty of chicken on the caesar salad!

It's been over a decade since i last visited the hotel and had chosen it as a base of operations for a long weekend. I'd also booked another Marriott in another location so I'll write about that separately. Nicola on reception was very welcoming and check in was extremely efficient. We dropped our bags off and noticed some Chelsea tractors in the "Maximum Stay 30 minutes section" and were not surprised to see them when we left two days later. The inconsideration of some individuals who it turns out were perfectly capable of parking in the main area felt it didn't apply to them amongst other examples which I will lead onto. We sat outside after grabbing some drinks from the bar which was busy but service was swift. I'd pre-booked a table in the Cast Iron Grill and seated in the main atrium; with splendid views across one of the golf course greens and a rare blue sky made the evening fairly pleasant. And then it went downhill from there. We'd walked past an annex which was reserved for a large party for a weekend golfing event and there were more large groups from the same event who didn't have presence of mind to notice that they were sat amongst families and couples who really didn't want to listen to the foul language that was bring used to argue over bills, latecomers, absentees, food orders and tips. Valentin was splendid throughout the evening and it's of no fault of the hotel if this is what happens when a golfing even is taking place but I would rather have known well beforehand so I could make alternative arrangements. We did observe a wedding on the 2nd day and with having completely separate facilities, those events would never be affected but it saddens me that we will not be returning and sure some other guests felt the same way.
