Just spent 2 nights here as part of a business conference. It is a lovely hotel for a very large city centre hotel. Bedroom was huge and nice quality. The whole building is very spacious and clean. Food was amazing,considering they ware catering for 250 people for our event, this is not easy. Service was mostly good. Great value. Recommended.

“Son 6th birthday night away with his dad”

“Not recommended if you have mobility challenges or disabilities”

Beautiful hotel, we loved the Victorian Gothic ambience and our room which was spacious and decorated with a sense of flair. However, the hotel is rambling with many sets of stairs, with only one small elevator connecting reception to the rooms. My mother’s disabled access room is on the opposite side of the hotel to this lift! There are no ramps to help wheelchair or walking stick users to navigate the many staircases, there are three sets of stairs between reception and the bars/restaurants (for example). Similarly when we checked out we saw a large group of cabin crew struggling to lift their heavy suitcases up and down these stairs, there was also a long queue to use the one small lift from reception. Lugging a heavy case up a staircase was the only option for these stewardesses. I’ve travelled loads and not seen anything like this! This lack of access issue in 2024 in a luxury hotel is just not acceptable. Kimpton, you can do much much better than this. You can put a few ramps in and update your room numbering systems and facilities to address this issue, surely. This would detract from the architectural and style of the hotel at all, which is genuinely great, but these access issues detract substantially from what would otherwise have been a fantastic stay. We will not able to stay here again, unfortunately.

A bit like the Curate’s egg, good in parts. A very splendid lobby and a helpful check in person made for a good start. It was a bit of a challenge finding my room in this rambling Victorian gothic building, but eventually located it with the assistance of some room attendants. Room was spacious, if a little dark, and the air conditioning effective; possibly a little too effective because unusually I was cold rather than over heated . Bed was comfortable and there was a fridge, kettle, a small container of milk and a Nespresso machine with tea and coffee to go with it. Complimentary crisps and a Tunnocks wafer biscuit. Breakfast was average and the service poor. It was a slightly tired buffet so I wanted to order poached eggs (£6 extra) but couldn’t find any one to take the order. Coffee was equally difficult to order, although to be honest when it arrived it was rubbish coffee anyway so I may as well not bothered and used the Nespresso in my room. Since the hotel is huge and caters for conferences, it doesn’t seem to cater particularly for the tourist traveller who I guess are less profitable. Decor around the place is dark and dreary in parts but thats the nature of Victorian gothic, it was more or less clean. Plenty of places to eat out so didn’t dine in the hotel; it’s close to St Peter’s Square and the University sites, and Oxford Road Station is just across the road. No on site car parking but at least 2 NCP car parks in adjacent streets, plus some on street parking for the brave.
