We have just had yet another amazing Christmas party night here (7th). The reason we choose this place repeatedly is because their customer service is second to none. From check in, to check out it the staff were amazing. A special shout out the Hailey who goes above and beyond and takes her time to talk to you. All the party staff were great Special mention to the kitchen team. The beef was to die.for last night and to make the food to such a high standard and piping hot with over 100 parry guest is fantastic. Breakfast was perfect. Room was beautifully decorated and nice and cosy. Highly recommend party nights, over night stays or just a meal at the Glendower. 10stars xx

“Nice hotel, well run and pleasant staff.”

A lovely hotel, very friendly staff and nice warm place. We had a dance weekend with Christmas fare. Food was satisfactory and we had a great time. Our room had a bath, tv and kettle. The room if I was honest was a little too warm and we had no heating on, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was amazin… more

A lovely hotel, very friendly staff and nice warm place. We had a dance weekend with Christmas fare. Food was satisfactory and we had a great time. Our room had a bath, tv and kettle. The room if I was honest was a little too warm and we had no heating on, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, although wasted on myself as I never really do it justice. I would definitely stay over again.

This is part of what I wrote in my review back in Nov 2023. "...There wasn't any 'welcome' as such, in fact the receptionist behind the desk never spoke until I said "Hi, checking in" at which point she asked me for my name. She was polite but had no warmth and didn't even smile. And that made her 'average'. (Sad to say but today, a genuine smile and "Hello welcome to XXX Hotel" is all one has to do to be above average as far as hotel reception staff go.) What is it with people on the 'front line' who deal with customers and yet don't seem to understand the importance, the value and the difference that a smile can make?.." Fast forward to December 2024. We arrived at around 17.55 but couldn't get in the front door. There was another guest who had tried ringing the bell and knocking but to no avail. At 18.00 I rang the hotel, got the answer machine and left a message informing staff that we were stood outside. Happily it wasn't raining and after a couple more minutes another guest opened the door because he was exiting the hotel. As we approached the desk, the receptionist (Judith) offered no smile and no words of welcome. The gentleman who had been stood with us spoke first and politely explained that we'd been stuck outside waiting to get in. I thought (but tbh, didn't expect) the first words from the receptionist would be "Oh I'm sorry to hear that" or words to that effect. What she actually said (still no smile) was "Did you press the button?" The gentleman asked "What button?" At which point Judith said "I'll show you" and led him (I followed) back to the front door and pointed to a button (partially hidden with Xmas decoration but still visible). "It should be lit up" she explained (still no apology). But it wasn't illuminated. There is of course a reason why the hotel lights up the button - because it's very easy NOT to see it in the dark. We returned to the desk where he collected his key and went off to his room. I was about to tell her that she'd managed to complete the whole thing without a word of apology or a smile but thought, 'It's just not worth it.' I knew there'd be a debate and my wife and I were going out that evening for a meal with friends and I knew I'd only end up getting annoyed listening to the denial of my assertion or justification for her lack of anything remotely resembling a welcome. So we then went through the check-in process with no smile until (to be fair) the very last moment when she handed me our room key and said "Have a good evening". (My wife was convinced that it was Judith we encountered on reception when we arrived last year.) I can't tell you what the food was like in the hotel as we ate neither breakfast nor dinner there. Our standard double room was warm, comfortable and adequately furnished. The ensuite was bathroom was clean and a reasonable size. Both were large enough for a night. On checking out, the reception team (different people from the evening before) who were very friendly, asked how our stay had been. We told them it was fine but we were disappointed AGAIN by the lack of a welcome when we arrived. The hospitality industry are always keen to tell us what a tough time they're having (and I'm sure they are) but such businesses can help themselves by ensuring that the people they put on a front desk, WANT to give people a warm welcome and a smile, and in so doing, ensure that the experience guests have at the very start of their stay is a good one, as opposed to the one we were received.
