Got an amazing deal in this hotel for £126.00 for Bed and Breakfast and Evening Meal for 2 nights for a solo traveler . It was only after I booked it I found out it was part of the Britannia Group which recently has been getting a bit of stick in the press. The only real negative was it's about a 25 minute walk from the station or into town where the main bars are. However there is a tram stop outside the hotel or the number 3 bus outside the Gynn pub across the road. On arrival the hotel while dated would have one of the best in it's heyday and still had some lovely features. The room itself had large bed, excellent bathroom, iron, hairdryer, ironing board and good sized television. Most importantly it was very clean. The breakfast in the morning was very standard fare with four cearals, fruit juice, fruit,eggs, bacon sausage, fried bread, hash browns, black pudding and beans. Also a very nice coffee and toast machine. All self service. The Evening meal surprisingly was the highlight of the trip again self service. I had both excellent soup and pate with toast for starters. This was followed over the two days by the likes of fish and chips, an excellent chicken breast in sauce and pork in gravy. There were also a couple of vegetarian options . Enough choice each night. To round it off there was the likes of Jam Roly Poly and a few different cakes. The bar area which was actually cheaper than wetherspoons for a pint was well populated and both nights the residents were entertained by a singer. A little word of warning for those with mobility issues there is only one lift which only holds two people so would request floor one. All in all a very pleasant stay.
