“Five night stay lake view double room”

My husband and I visited for 5 nights September 2024 for a short break and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked online and decided on a lake view (and noted down that it was a special occasion for us). The hotel itself has a stately home vibe but with modern touches like the bathrooms an… more

“Disappointing Meal”

Room was very nice . Good facilities and great view. The food in the bistro however was another story . If the meal had not been paid for from the £50 credit issued per person we definitely would not have paid for the main courses .Very highly priced and definitely not what you would expect from an… more

  • Guests at Storrs Hall Hotel say: My husband and I visited for 5 nights September 2024 for a short break and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked online and decided on a lake view (and noted down that it was a special occasion for us). The hotel itself has a stately home vibe but with modern touches like the bathrooms and I daresay the expensive suites are probably more modern throughout. As it was our first visit, we didn't ask for a particular floor/room and upon arrival we were allocated room 37 on the top floor. If you look at the outside of the building, you can see the windows are quite a bit smaller on the top floor so when we were shown our room, we were disappointed with the view as there was only one chair by the window and it was a bit squashed to try and see the lake. You couldn't sit as a couple with a drink together and look out at the lake. Otherwise the room was nice enough: the modern bathroom was a good size although the room itself was a tad small and very orange. The floor squeaked a lot too, which could be quite annoying for nightly bathroom trips! I was quite disappointed as some of the photos on the website of the lakeview rooms looked so much better (the website seems to be updating now) and I suppose I thought as it was a special occasion for us, the hotel would try and put us in a good room. Spoke with Luke on reception and after explaining our disappointment, he was able to manage a swap to room 20 which was so much nicer. Thank you Luke and Amy for doing your best for us in this regard. Luke could see we were not wholly happy and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Room 20 on floor one had a great view with 2 chairs and larger window. The window did not open apart from 2 small side flaps but there was AC. The bathroom was modern with large towels and a small cubby hole in the shower for toiletries and a demisting mirror above the basin. Molton Brown toiletries renewed every 2 or 3 days. Tea and coffee and water in room. Room was very hot and bathroom was like a sauna after being in the shower! For the final night, we had to move to room 2 which was on the first floor again so a good view. Only one window chair this time though. The bathroom had a bath and a large tunnel like shower cubicle. You had to climb a couple of steps to get into the bathroom which might not be ideal for some. No aircon but window did open in this room. Room 2 was still better than room 37, but in our opinion not as good as 20. The grounds and views are stunningly beautiful and we enjoyed walking by the lake. We ate in the bistro one night which was ok but overpriced. In terms of dress code, people were wearing casual clothes through to very smart so might have dressed up a bit more had we gone again. The breakfasts were fabulous although we weren't so keen on having to book a time (15 minute slots but the early slots had been taken when we arrived so were left with 915). We would have preferred to decide each morning when to come down. The staff were exceptional; friendly, courteous and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Parking was a little tight (narrow and short) - you can park up by the hotel as they have a few spaces but otherwise there is an overflow. Next time, we would definitely request a particular room number as not all lake view rooms are of equal quality. The hotel doesn't provide anything for special occasions, which would have been a nice touch - a small card, chocolates or dinner discount would have been a lovely touch (think you can pay for flowers in room). Luke (and the lovely lady on reception with the short hair and glasses - oops forgotten her name) had remembered so did wish us a happy anniversary
