We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our lakeside view room provided us with a beautiful view over Lake Windermere and I could have spent hours just watching the activity. We had access to the swimming pool in the Spa and enjoyed a relaxing swim after a busy day. Breakfast was exceptional with great service and food. We ate in the Ruskin Brasserie first night and the Lakeside Restaurant on the second. We actually preferred the more relaxed atmosphere in the brasserie and food was delicious in both. We must have enjoyed it as we are going back again in the Autumn!

“Elegance by the Lake”

As an American traveler I was pleasantly surprised by the charm and elegance of this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location is great. The scenery was amazing. The Aveda spa was lovely. However, if you are used to AC coming from America you will not have this. You have a fan in your room to plug in. It can get quite warm. You might have to ask for two fans. The mattress is a spring mattress that I would suggest needs replacing. If you want to do a tea experience make your reservation 24 hours, and prebook your spa appointments because they fill up way in advance.

“Lakeside Hotel - Very Disappointing.”

This is a hotel living on it's location, it's spa, and not much else. Went on a special deal for a significant birthday treat only to be greatly disappointed. Firstly on arrival at reception, the price for the upgraded room was incorrect and we pointed this out to them and it had to be amended. On arriving at our Lakeview room my wife started her shower, only to find the shampoo/shower gel empty and had to call me to get her something to wash with, also the bath/shower floor was an accident waiting to happen with no anti-slip mat. These were rapidly rectified with apologies, but should not happen in the first place. Service in the conservatory for snacks was non-existent. We had to go and search for someone to take our order and when the food came it was quite poor and VERY expensive for what it was. The same in the Brasserie in the evening. £25 each for Trio of Sausages and Mash is a ridiculous cost and my wife was ill all night due to high fat content caused by the cream and/or butter in the mashed potato. In the morning at breakfast, again slow service and poor quality food and difficulty in getting what I had ordered. My wife didn't eat as still not feeling well. For the piece de resistance, in the evening for my celebratory dinner we ordered the Chateaubriand to share, with a supplementary charge of £20 PER PERSON!, making the total cost of each main course £49. WOW, and it was a tasteless poor quality piece of meat as well, accompanied by 1 mushroom, 1 tomato, 3 onion rings. a few green leaves on each plate and a bowl of chips to share. SCANDALOUS. To add insult to injury on checking our receipt for the evening meal we discovered we had been charged for the 'complimentary' champagne for my birthday and pointed this out where they profusely apologised and took it off. I was given a very small dessert, (also supposedly complimentary). It's not the cost I'm complaining about, it's the value you get for your money. Drinks are also at exorbitant prices in the bar. The following morning at breakfast, there were no yoghurts or fruit salad on the self service area and my wife had to ask for these items to be refilled. She then ordered scrambled eggs with smoked salmon served on wholemeal toast as per the menu. What arrived was scrambled eggs with smoked salmon served on a half white muffin. She questioned this and the young server went to the kitchen and returned saying the chef said it was correct!! She showed him the menu and he took the plate away and returned with the correct toast and an apology, again. They don't seem to carry skimmed milk or any other milks, ie. soya, almond etc. In fact there is a lack of any healthy options on any of the dining menus. I would expect more from a hotel of this supposed standard. When checking out, we found the room charge error and champagne were again on the bill and questioned them. They were once again removed and we paid the amount stated. This obviously left us feeling disappointed with the whole experience. Is this a policy of the hotel?? After returning home, we scrutinised the bill and found we could not match things up to what we'd had and found that we had been overcharged for the sausage trio. We contacted the accounts department at the hotel, pointing out these items as we were still not happy about the charges. To their credit they did investigate the matter and refunded all erroneous charges with apologies (again) and gave us an ex-gratia payment as compensation. I would highly recommend that you check your bills meticulously prior to paying for anything. "Errors" happened too often for my liking. As said earlier, it's not about the price, It's about value. I hate being ripped off. At a hotel with this rating and these prices. I expect far more!!

We have stayed in this hotel before so we booked in again with Secret escapes Deal. The hotel is in a lovely spot, the hotel is in need of renovation we stayed in a lakeside room which was not cheap but on closer inspection found the wallpaper stained with dirty mark, the upholstery ripped, dirty marks on carpet and the bathroom not very clean mouldy tiles and grouting, BUT the the most awful thing about this hotel is the prices of food and drinks well above average for very below average food. We had fish and chips in the restaurant and it was greasy and the cod was grey! The price of coffee and wine/beer/food/snacks is expensive We glimpsed the chef in the restaurant with a huge long beard with an elastic around the bottom, surly he should have a net on that beard if he’s cooking food. The cooked breakfast was cold and I had to return it 3 times and it still came back no better in the end I just left it, the egg was hard you couldn’t cut the bacon it was dry and hard the next day we opted for salmon and scramble eggs which was nice. It has a lovely spa and pool area and a nice outlook, but if you want to charge big prices then you have to be on the top of your league, this doesn’t reflect in the hygiene and cleanliness of the hotel, the standard of room or the prices of food and drink. Things have to improve, everyone is looking now for Value for money and at nearly £300 a night for a lakeside room with dinner that’s expensive.
