Just returned from our first visit to the Keswick Country House hotel. We had an absolutely fabulous Christmas, Twixmas and New Year break at this hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the entertainment was brilliant. The food was certainly on par with food on a cruise so much choice and so well presented. We enjoyed it that much that we have already booked again for Christmas 2025, Twixmas and New Year. It certainly must be good as people we were talking too had been visiting the hotel for 30 years and many made several during the year. To me that says it all.

“Another Superb New Year Celebration”

Just got back home after another superb New Year 3 day package, celebrating with friends. Food, activities and entertainment were excellent as ever. Special mention to Stephanie for the very best quiz you will ever see, restaurant manager Vanessa, and all the staff in every department.

Visited the hotel for the New year Break. Have been previously pre covid and the hotel really hasn't changed in that time. Check in was quick and efficient. Twin bedroom was clean and comfortable albeit on the top floor and the last room on the corridor which meant negotiating a plethora of swing doors whilst negotiating a suitcase and bags. Why there is porterage at the hotel is questionable especially as many of the guests were much older than us. Dinner was well cooked and presentation excellent. Service was quick and efficient and staff were very pleasant. However the volume of noise from some of the larger parties was intrusive. Breakfast was buffet style and was average. Hot plate was refilled quickly but the quality of some of the food ( sausages in particular) was really poor. Tasted what i suspect was like poor quality supermarket frozen brands. No porridge at breakfast either! Also its not possible to have a latte or cappuccino at breakfast in spite of it being available in the lounges! Lots of lovely comfortable seating areas in the hotel. Entertainment provided in the evening. However the location for this meant that only a small area of the seating had visibility of the singer, the rest of the seating only had the vocals which left us feeling rather " out of it". It was rather annoying to find that a lot of seating in the lounges was " reserved" by people who had a later dining time. With limited space for everyone is it acceptable that coats and bags should be left on seats for up to 2 hours and then reclaimed by the late diners???? This was predominant in the area where the singer was...rather like reserving a sunbed with a towel! Overall it was a pleasant stay and good value for money, and we will return to the hotel again but probably not over the festive period as we felt rather sidelined because of the issues quoted.

Our 4th New Year visit to this hotel and our 7th stay in total. We normally try and visit at least once a year. It’s in a great location, the food selection and quality is very good, the hotel is very well run by Stephanie and her team and the service in all areas is excellent. Unfortunately the weather was against us this year, which meant we spent more time in the hotel than we normally would. The hotel has a great lounge/bar area which is a great space to chill/read a book etc. We enjoyed doing the various quizzes and the entertainment each evening was well received. The afternoon tea is also a nice touch. The visit to the hotel by the Cumberland Bird of Prey centre was very interesting. We were pleased to see Fiona Shaw on the entertainment she is such a talented entertainer. The New Years Eve celebrations is what we look forward to the most and our party of 6 had a great time. We upgraded our room booking this year to a deluxe king size room, we normally book a standard double. To be honest it wasn’t worth the extra cost. Although the room 303 was a lot larger than the standard room with a separate seating area and was on the garden side of the hotel, the room was in the eves of the roof and the windows were high up and very small. To see any view from the window you had to stand up so being on the garden side was a waste of money. The bathroom was old and had seen better days with no walk in shower, and the step in over the bath shower wasn’t great, no constant water temperature in the shower. The room was also very dark even though it had 3 central lights. An addition of a lamp by the dressing table would make things a little better and easier when putting on makeup. At nearly £500 a night for 2 people I did think it expensive. Next years price starts from £745 per person for a standard room for 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast. I wouldn’t personally pay the extra for an upgrade unless I was guaranteed a good view of the garden. Overall we all had a great time and we will be back in the future.
