I have been regularly staying at the Hotel De France since 1996, sometimes staying 2 or 3 times a year, so must have stayed at least 50 times, and have seen many changes at the Hotel, have seen the new Spa facility built and the very nice Spa rooms, in fact I was such a regular visitor to the Hotel at one point, I was even given a private guided tour of the new Spa facility's, before they had opened to the public. I have also witnessed parts of the hotel being demolish and sold off for development. But I am very disappointed with the latest sell off, within the Hotel grounds there was three car park facilities, the main undercover guest carpark, that is on the same level and only a few metres from the Hotels main reception entrance, so very convenient for guests including any disabled guest. there is also a underground carpark for the medical center that is set in the Hotel grounds, and a 2nd underground carpark that is signed as being"overflow carpark for medical center and Hotel" So imagen my surprise when on my most recent visit to the Hotel to find a barrier being installed at the main Hotel guests carpark, on asking about this at the hotel reception I was informed that "the guest carpark was now private parking and I could park at the overflow carpark" So now guest have to find a space in a underground carpark that is very busy being shared with people using the medical center, with the pedestrian exit from this carpark now being up a flight of steep wet stairs (see photo) before walking up a steep slope to the Hotel reception. When I questioned this further with reception, asking about if you had luggage or maybe elderly friends with you, " I was told that you could drop your luggage or elderly friends of at the Hotel reception entrance and then go and park" But there is a major flaw in that advice!. the entrance to the overflow carpark is in a one way system and before the Hotel reception entrance, so you would need to drive past the carpark, go to the Hotel reception entrance, drop off your luggage or elderly friends, but would then have to continue round the Hotels one-way system, leave the Hotel grounds on to the public road making a right turn across the busy main road outside the Hotel, before then having to turn right again crossing the busy road in order to re-enter the Hotel grounds and park. And would have to repeat this if you then wanted to collect anyone from the Hotel reception entrance, as the exit from this underground carpark is past the Hotel reception entrance in the one-way system. I think this new parking arrangement, has taken away one of the main benefits that this Hotel had over other Hotels in St Helier, easy and convenient guest parking!, and I would now consider staying at a different Hotel in Jersey now, especially at peak times.
