The concept of bloc is genius and I love the fact that it’s at Gatwick south terminal departures, I have stayed here on more than three occasions, as a family of four and recently as a couple and each time it’s been, for lack of better words a different experience. I have stayed in most of the rooms that have a view, for example the aspire family room, the vista and vista family room which are all compact and have exactly what you need, as well as these rooms I have also stayed in the vip room which is so much more spacious and great for a family of four, The rooms are stylish and are well cleaned However, if you’re looking too hard like I do, you will find finger prints and stray hairs here and there, it doesn’t help that nearly everything is black,grey and brown, so fun times for my germaphobe self. The beds are very comfortable in all the different rooms that I have stayed in, although I don’t know whose idea it was to put the shower over the toilet in the smaller rooms, so be prepared to have water all over your toilet as everything is compact. In the past we had a fire alarm go off in our room at 3am, when we had to get up early in the morning for a 7am flight, with two very small children, we called reception for help but no one answered, when we were checking out I told the person at reception about our ordeal and she didn’t seem bothered, no apology, no explanation, it wasn’t even a fire drill, come to think back on it she had a grin on her face, especially when we were telling her that no one picked up the phone, that was a horrible stay, another stay we found that our room was not guest ready with bed crumbs and hair on the bed, we informed the night staff working and the matter was resolved and that also resulted in getting a little bit of a refund for the inconvenience, I overlooked both bad experiences and returned to bloc because of its convenience as you cannot beat it, every hotel has its hiccups you don’t book bloc with intentions to do a holiday stay (unless if that’s where you want to stay) it’s made for getting a good nights rest before your early flight or after your late night flight. I felt appreciated as a bloc patron this time around with really good pre stay emails that were personalised and addressed the fact that I had been a loyal customer as well as this, i was being informed of what was happening as I was travelling during the day that Gatwick south had the security scare. The person at reception seemed ok, and he was was professional. Overall a decent nights sleep.

What a great location, bang in the middle of Gatwick Airport South Terminal with reception desk on the 3rd (departures/security) floor but you can also take the lift up from the 2nd (arrivals/check in departure floor). Receptionists very friendly and helpful. Tell you about control panel, about discount at terminal restaurants/cafes, tell you where your room is and also give you the fast track security card. In fact, all staff including the cleaners were friendly. I had a double room with no view. Not sure whether to describe it as a very small room or a large pod! But of you're only staying for a night or two, it is perfectly survivable. Panel worked fine, TV control worked fine, air-conditioning/heating worked and so did the internet wifi. Shower foam and sink soap was filled up, the room was very clean, ample towels, very comfortable bed and even a hair dryer. The shower/toilet is basically a wet room. Not a separate shower unit, the water ends up all over the floor and on the toilet. But the pressure was good and it was hot. Along the corridor is a coffee machine room. Cappuccino, flat white, americano, macchiato, espresso, hot chocolate, tea bags etc. Good choice and it tasted fine. (much better than having the usual Nescafe sachets and kettle in your room!) Overall, the rooms are small and in terms of pricing maybe double the price of a Travelodge on one of their cheaper nights, but it's all about the location and when the beds are comfy and the facilities are good, the staff are bright and helpful; that's good for me. Would I return? Yes, definitely.
