I stayed for one night on a Saturday in October with my 12-year-old daughter. First mother-daughter weekend away! **Location:** The hotel is ideally situated for travelers arriving by train, located directly opposite the station. **Check-in/Check-out:** We arrived around 12:30 pm and were able to check into our room right away which was appreciated. The reception staff was friendly and welcoming. Deposit: A £50 deposit was taken upon arrival as a precaution for potential damages, which I hadn't encountered ever before. I was assured the amount would be refunded within 5-10 days. At the time of writing this review 5 days later the money still hasn’t arrived. **Breakfast:** Although the selection was small, it covered all the essentials: a hot English breakfast, toast, a few pastries, and a modest selection of continental options. Tea and coffee were served by the staff, though I wasn’t particularly fond of the coffee – first time in my life as I’m not fussy. The Hudson restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere and the staff were friendly. Breakfast is served until 10:30 am on Sundays. **Room:** one big letdown I’m afraid! The room had clearly seen better days, though it still hinted at its former grandeur. While clean, there were signs of wear, such as peeling paint on the doors and sticky patches on the carpet, which I found quite bothersome (especially with socks sticking to it). I asked if there was a chance to get a pair of complimentary slippers to use in the room but they were unavailable unfortunately. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable. There was no air conditioning, and the windows could not be opened. Minibar available in the room (I.e. Red/white wine 8.50 per small bottle) - so much cheaper to get stuff out, plenty of stores outside (I.e. cans of soft drink from £1, 2 small bottles of wine for £5 total). **Noise:** We stayed on the 5th floor and experienced significant noise from outside until about 3:30 am. While this is somewhat expected when staying centrally on a Saturday night, it's worth noting for light sleepers. **Overall:** Sadly I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless you get a great deal. The price was in line with other central hotels, so in future, I would opt for a more modern, nicer to „the eye’ alternative.
