Always enjoy my stays at the Devon Hotel. Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, nice food, convenient location and full use of the gym included.

A very challenging start ! All ok in the end, but it could have been disaster. I was invited to attend a function at th Devon Hotel, and having several allergies tried to contact Charlie as instructed to try to establish what I could eat. I phoned several times over the previous month. He never seemed to be there but I was assured he would phone. Having heard nothing the Wednesday before the event I emailed Charlie via the main email address, and followed up with a phone call. He said he had received the email, would speak to the chef and phone back. By Friday I had heard nothing. Again I phoned, this time answered by Chris, the Under Manager, who told me rather impatiently Charlie had left for the day. I asked if I could speak to the chef, very rudely he said “ that is impossible” I explained the reason for phoning and he said again rather rudely, you will have to look online at the menu. I explained I wouldn’t know which dishes were gluten, dairy and free of other things or which could be adapted. I explained Charlie had a list and was going to speak to the chef. Chris denied I had sent an email and shouted me down when I insisted I had. When I did not back down he really lost his temper and eventually said they couldn’t cater for me and I was not to attend!, I gave him an hour to calm Down and phoned back with some simple suggestions to help. Chris answered and simply said I was not to come to the hotel. I have never encountered such rudeness at any other catering establishment in 50 years! Having emailed the head office of Brend Hotels over the weekend's, on Monday I phone the hotel again, and spoke to a delightful lady, Restaurant Manager Thea. She was charming and helpful got the whole thing sorted out in a very short time and was incredibly polite. It takes a woman! Then the Hotel manager phoned. Between them they restored my faith, but I was still unhappy about the service received from Chris and lack of response from Charlie! In the event the food was fine and the staff on the day were charming, so it was only two people but they could have ruined the reputation of the hotel. Having attended other Brend Hotels for functions and informally I have always experience excellent service. They have been brilliant with allergies and very polite.

“Great restaurant and food”

Enjoyed my stay. Rooms and bathroom are fairly compact but clean. The restaurant and food was lovely.
