The house was very quiet,nice and clean the staff was very friendly everything was good and the hotel near Supermarket and restaurant and Metro Station . The room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was nice and cozy we well come back soon

I booked the Gem Strathmore Hotel for a weekend to celebrate my friend's birthday. We like the Kensington area, though hadn't stayed at this hotel before. It's a lovely period building full of old world charm. Our twin room on the 4th floor was accessed by a little lift or stairs if you had the energy. The room was compact, as are most hotel rooms in London, and overlooked the gardens nearby. It was spotlessly clean with an equally spotless bathroom with bath and shower over. Furniture was simple, a cupboard wardrobe, dressing table and bedside cabinets but more than adequate for a weekend away with a kettle and tea and coffee facilities. The beds were really comfy and firm but with fluffy pillows. The room itself was cool as we like it, and the window could be opened 6 inches to let fresh air in. Our deal included full English breakfast which was delicious, freshly cooked to order and piping hot. There was a good selection of other breakfast items including cereals, fruit, juices, cheeses, ham, smoked mackerel, pastries and croissants with preserves. Toast was brought to your table. Tea, hot water and coffee was from pump flasks to help yourself and it was hot and plentiful, but there was also tea bags and coffee to make it yourself if you preferred. The breakfast was so substantial it lasted nearly all day so only a light snack was needed mid afternoon. The staff were so helpful, friendly and efficient they were also very welcoming. Our room was blissfully quiet and we enjoyed a restful sleep after a busy day in the city. We were very, very impressed with the Strathmore all round and it was excellent value for money and would certainly stay there again. We couldn't fault anything and we are quite discerning travellers.

We booked a Travelzoo deal for the Strathmore as we were going to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. This included B and B , a cream tea and wifi . Staff phoned before our arrival to see what time we wanted our cream tea. Throughout staff were polite and helpful althouhg we had to wait a long time to check in due to some international guests taking a very long time. The room was a good size for London, and I slept well. There are some renovations of the front of the building so there were workmen outside the window at 8.30am despite us being on the 4th floor but that can't be helped. There was an extensive breakfast, we were about to sit down at the table we were given when we were asked to not to and wait until the server dashed off to reception - no idea why. My veggie breakfast was OK, my husband felt one rasher of bacon with his full English was a bit mean and the sausage was very small. Wide range of choice. The cream team included warm, fluffy scones with Jam and clotted cream plus butter when requested and was taken in the cosy bar area. We were able to leave our bags securely while we explored the nearby museums the next day.

The location is amazing, staff are very helpful and hotel looks great from the outside and on the first inspection. But…the rooms are “ok”, but tiny. There was about six inches between the edge of the bed and the window. It’s also rough around the edges when you look closer and is in need of an update, as it has peeling wallpaper and grubby carpets. My stay was ok, but my sleep was dreadful as the bed takes the prize of the hardest and most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. It also hosts the most comically tiny lift, which fits one person and a large suitcase, so be prepared for that. For nearly £300 a night I expected more.
