“One night only”

Cute little boutique hotel. Staff very friendly, dinky room and a very comfy bed. A couple of gripes; our room wasn’t ready at 2pm so we had to kick our heels for 30 mins which messed plans up. The bar prices are astronomical, like ridiculous, even for London. Great location, and very quiet.

Booked when my regular work travel hotel was unavailable. Location-wise Ten Manchester Street is convenient for Baker St tube and a stone’s throw from Marylebone’s shops and restaurants. Despite being in a busy area it’s on a quiet leafy street. On checking in it was disappointing to learn the breakfast I had made a point of including in my booking hadn’t translated through to the hotel systems. Unfortunately the hotel wouldn’t honour it and suggested I call the travel company to sort/arrange to claim back. As I’d arrived late after a busy day I didn’t have the energy for the admin. With no food included it made it a v expensive room-only stay. My room was clean but small and dark with oversized/unnecessary furniture. I’d have happily exchanged the giant velour dining chairs and headboard and unwieldy coffee table for some more space. Otherwise it had a good selection of hot drink materials, well stocked minibar and quality toiletries. Overall as with the rest of the hotel, felt a bit tired and in need of a decor refresh. Another point to note is the unusual option of a 4% service charge, explained on check in. I’m unclear why this is added to the bill. Given my only interaction was being told I had to pay for my pre-purchased breakfast, I opted out.

I have stayed here several times but not for a few years. Little has changed in its history. The staff are very good and it is clean but does need some attention, e.g. bathroom tile grout in poor condition, no USB sockets, wardrobes cheap melamine. We stayed in the Courtyard rooms which have a small outside space, these have not changed. However the kitchen / restaurant one floor up has a door that needs attention as woken up with a lot of noise from the continuous door banging shut as staff passed in and out from 7 in the morning during breakfast. I complained and they made an effort to resolve this with a cushion but the real test would be if they actually resolve it permanently. The cigar lounge is a feature but now you actually have to buy a cigar as well from the hotel to be in it which is a nonsense as I like my cigars. Their drinks are so stupidly overpriced. A Laphroaig whisky was not only misspelt on the menu but had a markup of 2000%, yes 2000. Also apart from the high room rate you are charged an extra 4% on top of your bill for cleaning. Overall opinion - not worth the money anymore, shame because is it used to be worth it.
