Been staying here for 4 weeks and have mixed reviews. The front of house team do their best however the rooms cards deactivate all the time. The car parking is also awfully arranged. The location is fantastic, the executive lounge is wonderful, Mimi specifically is the most attentive host and has definitely enhanced our stay. The rooms are okay, but you hear a lot of noise from other rooms which is disappointing.

I am reviewing four stays in this hotel over the last year, so I think this gives an overview of what it is like. Three were booked via British Airways Holidays, the other I booked direct through Hilton Honors. Location is brilliant as it is not in the very middle of London, but close enough to it that you don't feel like you are in the suburbs. The Angel is a cracking area, it feels like a self-contained town in its own right - everything you need, shops, bars and a few nice restaurants are all to hand, less crowded and cheaper than in the manic cut and thrust of the West End - which is only a few stops away on the Tube anyway! I've frequented the other Islington Hilton just around the corner on Upper Street, and yes - I DO think it is a little bit better and definitely has a more upmarket feel - but this one has plenty to commend it. First of all it's near Angel tube station - a very short walk away, and therefore one stop up from King's Cross. You can walk up the Pentonville Road on a dry day it isn't that far if you can't be bothered with fighting the crowds on the Tube. Rooms are all typical DoubleTree in terms of style and facilities, but I do notice that you seem to get allocated better rooms as a Hilton Honors member than when you book via a third party (British Airways in my case )- when you seem to get given pokey little rooms at the far end of the building and nowhere near the lifts. On that subject, the rooms on the right-hand front of the building and at the very back look out onto busy pubs on the opposite side of the road which can get noisy in the evenings. Beds are comfortable, the rooms all have walk-in showers. I have never eaten or had breakfast in the main restaurant so can't comment (I wouldn't believe all the hype of it being branded "Marco Pierre White") , although once had a bar meal and it was well - somewhat ordinary it has to be said given I was charged what you'd expect in a DoubleTree in the near centre of London (i.e. a lot). Take my word for it - there are plenty of great places to eat a short walk away on Chapel Market and on Islington High Street.... Unless you are staying in the Savoy or the Ritz, on-site food and beverage always seems to be ordinary wherever you go, so it's hardly surprising. The staff on all my stays have been lovely and problems were resolved quickly and politely. On my most recent visit in October, I made a minor comment about the shower head not working as it should - not a big deal - and the front of house assistant gave us two complimentary drinks vouchers which was a really nice touch. I DID have to teach the young lady at the bar how to make a lager shandy as she had never heard of one (!) which was quite amusing, but overall this is a hotel I know is always reliable and a nice place to stay.

“Stay was good...”

Good connection to Central London and had good night sleep. New Executive Lounge is over crowded as because the space is small. Old Lounge area was much better than the new one. Breakfast is okay and could have been better with choices. Size of the croissants are too small.
