“Great Spot”

Perfect location - short walk from the train station and a short walk to Royal Mile. Rooms clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful. Especially Kym at Breakfast. Many choices for breakfast. We also had dinner in the restaurant - food was excellent.

The room was comfortable and we were grateful for the AC however the lighting was so dim both in the room and bathroom that it made it difficult to do my hair and makeup. The room was comfortable and we were grateful for the AC however the lighting was so dim both in the room and bathroom that it made it difficult to do my hair and makeup. Also, there was no mirror over the desk so I had to stretch my hair straightener cord to reach the only other mirror besides the bathroom (you can only plug shavers into the bathroom outlet). There were no washcloths (facecloths) so I called reception and they said they would bring them to us. After an hour and a not receiving any, we went downstairs and asked for some but were told that they were fully booked and were out of them. I was disappointed that no one bothered to get back to us and honestly if facecloths are in such high demand, why not get more and/or provide them in the rooms. They cannot be that expensive. Breakfast was good and the omelette station was a nice touch.

The hotel is advertised as a 4 star accommodation with 24 hour room service. When we called to order our breakfast, we were informed they only serve pizza and sandwiches 24 hours a day. The hotel is advertised as a 4 star accommodation with 24 hour room service. When we called to order our breakfast, we were informed they only serve pizza and sandwiches 24 hours a day. The staff were lovely and did their best. Unfortunately, they are woefully understaffed. We only had our room cleaned 2 of 5 nights. One day about 4pm some boys came by with a trolley to give us clean towels and water. The room was very noisy. It was very clean and looked great. I was simply very disappointed by the lack of services based on what was advertised.

“They need to do something with the inconvenient hotel entrance and slow elevator.”

The location of this hotel isn’t bad if you want to be in walking distance to everything. However, the front entrance of this hotel is not at all convenient. You need to round the corner and walk through a cobblestone courtyard to get to the hotel entrance. This makes it very inconvenient if you order a taxi or an Uber because most of the time they will not pull into the correct entrance to pick you up and you need to turn the corner to go on the main street. The elevator in this hotel is SO SLOW! It was exceptionally warm and sunny the days that we were in Edinburgh and there is no air-conditioning in the hotel so we needed to sleep with the windows open. I called the front desk to order extra pillows and a blanket, and when the staff came to my room to bring it to me, instead of knocking, they just walked right into my room, which I found very intrusive. I personally will never stay at this hotel again however, if you can get a room for a decent rate and you will be out all day, it’s not a bad place to sleep and shower.
