The George is a truly world-class hotel -- posh without being stuffy, great catering and delicious menus without any silliness, comfortable beds and pillows, good television coverage in the rooms, robust wi-fi, and a staff that is very well-trained and really dedicated to the happiness of the guests. A couple of examples should demonstrate how responsive this hotel is. 1. I was booked in for a week, and the first room I was in was small but perfectly adequate, except that the shower required clambering over the high edge of a large bathtub -- something I could gladly have done when I was younger, but which I can no longer do; when I spoke to the front desk, the person on the desk told me that a larger room, with a walk-in shower, was coming open later that day, and they'd move me if I wished. I said "yes, please", and went up to my room to re-pack everything. When I returned to the hotel after the day's work, I was greeted at the front, given new keys, and shown to my new room, which, as advertised, had a walk-in shower, and perhaps the largest bathtub I've ever seen. A very satisfactory room for my remaining 6 nights. Example 2: I am a huge fan of kippers, those delicious Scotch smoked herrings which make a nice treat at breakfast. Before my stay, I got an email from the concierge desk -- is there anything special they could do to enhance my stay, and I replied that the only thing I needed was to be reassured that I could get a kipper with my breakfast. The reply at the time was a profound apology and a note that they didn't serve kippers. So imagine my surprise on checking in to have the concierge on duty come over to me, introduce himself, and tell me that the restaurant had taken in a supply of kippers, and they would be happy to serve me the breakfast of my dreams. Shortcomings? Very few, and it sounds mean and petty to even mention, since the hotel took care of these the moment I asked. Neither of my rooms had a chair in which one could sit at the side table in the room -- so if you ordered a meal from room service, you'd have to sit on the bed to eat. I asked housekeeping for a chair, and one came quickly. I would have appreciated having a listing of TV channels, but there was none, either on the TV or in print form. Taxis have to be called in advance, and while the system worked pretty well, I asked for a taxi to be called at 9:45 on Sunday morning to take me to the Anglican Cathedral for a 10:30 service; the taxi arrived at 10:20, and I barely made it to the service. NOT the hotel's fault at all, but frustrating. In summary, a wonderful hotel; I look forward to another trip to Edinburgh to be able to stay at The George again.

“Superb Central Stay”

I needed a very cenral hotel in Edinburgh and I knew this was where I needed it (I grew up in the City). It is such a pleasure these days to be able to say the staff were excellent to a man and woman. I needed a very cenral hotel in Edinburgh and I knew this was where I needed it (I grew up in the City). It is such a pleasure these days to be able to say the staff were excellent to a man and woman. I love it when staff are able to interact with humour whilst doing their, sometimes, mundane job. From Check in to Check out they were superb. The room was spotless and very spacious - excellent view of Fife. The bed was large (I did book a King size) and comfortable. Aircon was great. Bathroom and toiletries up to standard. NOTE - if you are short sighted and having a shower you will know that some conrtrols need to be peered at. Before yo do look up to see if there is an over head outlet! Cold is cold wherever you are! Breakfast was plentiful. Hot food was hot - much appreciated. Great to see Scottish options. Ther staff again very attentive and happy with a smile. To the Lady whose phone kept going off - not at breakfast please. Great short stay - recommended. I should note I often travel up for Edinburgh Rugby matches and stay at the IHG Zoo (which is good for purpose) but may have to switch if my wife has a say.

It has always been a dream to stay at The George Hotel ever since I previously had a wonderful dining experience there. Two weeks ago, that dream came true. From the moment my girlfriend and I arrived to the moment we left the service was absolutely second to none. We received the warmest of welcomes and the kindest of service throughout our stay. Every member of staff, from the front desk, concierge, bar and restaurant staff couldn’t have been more graceful, passionate and knowledgeable. Our room was gorgeous, immaculate and so comfortable. We had a perfect night and considering it along a busy street in the heart of Edinburgh we had no disruptions. Food, both our evening meal and breakfast was so absolutely delicious and the staff were so attentive. We didn’t want our time to end. Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We shall be back!

Our second stay at the InterContinental Edinburgh George Street during the festive season was absolutely enchanting. Visiting in late November/early December for Christmas shopping and to experience the charm of “Old Christmas” in Edinburgh, we once again chose this hotel—and it exceeded expectations. Coming from the northeast of England, it only takes about two hours on the train, making it an easy, scenic trip. We were thrilled to be upgraded to a suite with a stunning view of The Dome, complete with large Christmas trees in each bay window and a beautiful Christmas wreath on the door. These touches made it feel like a cozy, luxurious holiday retreat. The staff were fantastic, warm, and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. The hotel’s Christmas ambiance is unmatched, with festive decor in every corner, creating the perfect holiday atmosphere. We truly love this hotel and look forward to returning to enjoy its Christmas magic for years to come!
