Stayed here for three nights as a family of three, two adults and one child. The room had a double bed and sofa bed, tv, tea and coffee making facilities and the little packets of shortbread were a nice touch. Bathroom facilities were adequate and clean and plenty of towels. Our room was clean and welcoming, however I did find the bed and pillows to be quite uncomfortable and I struggled to sleep but I am quite picky with mattresses and pillows so this was probably just my own issue as my husband and daughter slept well most of the time. The staff here are really friendly and always happy to help if you have any questions, need directions, information on buses, trams etc. Breakfast is the usual hotel breakfast on offer, cooked, continental option, cereals etc. However it does get very busy and can be difficult to find a table. You also have the option to take croissants and muffins away with you as they provide brown paper bags to do so. Food is continually replenished and there is always enough to go around no matter how busy it gets, the only issue was not being able to get a mug for a hot drink, they seem to disappear quickly and not replaced so you have to use a disposable cup however this did not bother us, as long as we can get tea and coffee we aren't bothered what sort of cup it is. Location of the hotel is fantastic, Edinburgh Playhouse and plenty of restaurants just across the road, tram stop more or less outside the hotel, Princes St, Royal Mile about a 10 minute walk, Calton Hill is only about a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of bus stops and bus routes and reception are able to help direct you. All in all a lovely stay and would stay here again

“Breakfasts let this place down”

Visited this hotel a few times basically because the location is great. Staff are helpful and the rooms are clean. Visited this hotel a few times basically because the location is great. Staff are helpful and the rooms are clean. What let's it down is the breakfasts which haven't changed over the last couple of years. It's extremely busy at peak times. Food is almost inedible sausages in particular. Scrambled eggs are some sort of powder. Coffee from machine is even worse. Rolls are dried up. Think for £160 a night they could try harder with the breakfasts.
