There are many good things about this hotel. The seafront location is beautiful, as are all the public rooms. In my case the staff I saw were friendly and for me it was convenient to collect tea-making supplies at reception. My room rate was very reasonable and the room itself was simply but nicely furnished, with a high ceiling, good storage and a nice large, clean bathroom. I must say the shower head was excellent and hot water was plentiful. The shower was in a bath. There was no separate bath tap, but there was a plug and it was possible to run a bath from the shower head. So far so good, but, but, but. I have debated with myself whether to give 3 or 2 stars, because there were three serious problems and a fourth, which is that I have struggled in vain to find a way of reporting the 3 issues that need to be fixed. I told the person at Reception when I checked out, but these are things that need a conversation with a General Manager or at least a Housekeeper. I shall continue to try to find a way to report these issues direct, not just on Tripadvisor. The first and worst is that the bed was very uncomfortable: hard, lumpy and with a huge dip in the middle. In other words, the mattress is knackered. The second night I turned head to toe to try to find a less uncomfortable position, in vain. A mattress topper had obviously been added, but it doesn't make any difference - that mattress needs to be replaced. The second is that the window is filthy, to the extent that I thought there was a sea mist until I opened a small gap to find clear air. It may be the end of the summer season, but this needs to be fixed. The third issue is the mixer tap in the basin. It was hard to turn on, then harder to turn off, then finally the mixer tap head came off in my hand. I pressed it back on firmly and it worked ok, but this can't be right. Dear Britannia Hotels, your reviews show you can do better and many of the Cavendish's rooms are lovely, I'm sure! Please fix this one!
