“A stunning hotel”

An absolutely amazing hotel with the best spa and restaurant . We stayed in a suite and it was beautiful and exceptionally large . We had a great meal and a very nice trip to the spa . We would highly recommend a stay here. We will definitely be back .

A group visit to ESN on an organised golf break was excellent for the golf, accommodation and service around the golf course. However, whilst the buffet breakfast was fine, the 2 dinners that we had in the supposed good Pavillion Restaurant were disappointing to say the least. Only 4 limited choices on each occasion, smallish portions trying to be 'cheffy', same poor madras curry both nights, cheese and biscuits comprising one finger of tasteless cheddar and small piece of brie. Eton Mess on both nights, sausage and mash as poor main were the lowlights. Golfers, who seemed to be the majority of diners want simple dishes (chicken, steak pies etc, cod and chips) with decent portions of veg, chips etc. Paying £4 extra for each side dish is not on, but a sad route restaurants seem to be taking. Clearly the 2 star rosette award mentioned in your literature is set a low standard.

The front of ESN is well maintained and interesting, particularly the Golfers Entrance with the Fountain. The Lobby is spacious with varied seating, extremely helpful Front of House staff and access to drinking water pepped up with Cucumber or Lemon. Double Room was comfortable and spacious on the ground floor, but for us a long walk from the Lobby with no Lift at that end (130 onward). These are the reasons I gave an 'average' review; The Spa conveyed they were understaffed and this was supported by the amount of time spent waiting on the phone, being kept on hold and then left - and transferred somewhere else to start again. The Treatment I wanted wasn't available even though I tried booking a week before. I was offered the day after we checked out! So ensure you book treatments as soon as you have booked the Hotel. There is a beautiful outside area to the rear of the Hotel, with a few Bronze Sculptures, however this area could be made more appealing and comfortable. There is a Gazebo with shade but it only had an office type table in it and we had to move chairs across the green to sit there. The day we stayed was very hot and we would have preferred to be outside throughout but with some shade ie Umbrellas. We had to bring our own drinks down to the outside area, via a very unkempt, rusty fire escape type staircase - bringing drinks down in both hands and being unable to hold onto the bannister was quite daunting. I asked a member of Bar Staff if I could have assistance and was told she couldn't for Health & Safety reasons!! She wouldn't even bring it to the bottom of the stairs. On our 2nd day, we sat on the metal balcony which had the most shade, but the seats are uncomfortable for a long duration. Would suggest that the Windows around the Restaurant Areas are cleaned properly. There's a lovely view if it is to be seen through smear free windows. This was something our whole group picked up on.
