“Great service and great location”

I went there with my family I had a great time, the convenience of being in walking distance to the train station was great the rooms were clean and the staff were highly hospitable to me and I didn’t have to ask for amenities. The food was brilliant I highly recommend.

the room was cozy. the bes was the fluffiest. and the hotel is quiet at all time which i loved. best bar services ever. i loved how the receptionist was smiling the workers are all friendly. near tesco which is good for a good night snack. the room is very clean and tidy.

I booked this hotel on a room only basis through the Best Western app on a fairly last-minute basis. (Travel issues meant I was going to get to Derby later than I had intended and I was just about done with travelling for the day at that point.) I normally wouldn't comment on the booking experience, but this was a bit unusual as I got email requests from two different systems (Guestline and Upgrade My Room) to check-in prior to arrival, with the latter (which I believe was triggered by the management company's reservation system) offering various add-ons like breakfast and a few "welcome pack" options. Check-in was a breeze and all the staff I encountered during my stay were lovely and made me feel welcome even though it was my first stay at the hotel. A couple of things to be aware of is that the hotel doesn't have lifts, just stair access to the higher floors, so if you have mobility issues it's advisable to request a Ground Floor room. Additionally, there is no air conditioning, just panel heaters and desk fans. That said, even though it was barely above freezing on the night of my stay I didn't need to have the panel heater above 18°C (64°F) for it to be comfortably warm. Sadly there was no heating in the bathroom, however. Now onto the niggles: Half of the ground floor has been turned into a Tesco Express within the past year, resulting in the loss of most of the function space, the Reception area now doubling up as the bar (though that's not unusual at some other chains) and the Restaurant/Breakfast area being reduced in size. Whilst the mattress had clearly recently been replaced, bedding was limited to a single sheet and a duvet. Whilst I prefer a firm mattress, this resulted in it being too firm for me to get an uninterrupted sleep. As with another hotel I recently stayed at, the addition of a good quality mattress topper would help here. Being fairly large, the bathroom layout wasn't ideal as the toilet was practically right up against the wall, making sitting down on it challenging. The room I was in also had a bath, which I kept banging my knee against when using the toilet. As much as I prefer a nice soak in a bath over a shower, the ergonomics would be improved by replacing the bath with a shower cubicle as that would also allow for the toilet to be moved. Next onto the tea and coffee-making facilities. On the plus side, there was a nice large kettle. On the down side, the bathroom sink was such that it wasn't possible to fill the kettle directly from the tap without losing water when taking it out again. Instead, I had to use the glasses provided and then fill the kettle from those. Another niggle is that the rooms were supplied with coffee cups rather than mugs, and wooden stirrers rather than teaspoons. That may sound nitpicky, but the average coffee cup holds a couple of ounces less than a mug. Mugs were available at breakfast, however. Having requested to add breakfast to my booking when checking in through the Upgrade my Room portal, I was surprised to find the request hadn't made it through to the list of those who'd pre-booked breakfast. This meant I ended up paying the full £12.95 rather than the £9.45 offered on the portal. Overall breakfast was good quality, with the hot items being served hot, though eating cereal from a soup plate isn't ideal. I'd certainly consider staying here again next time I visit Derby, as the positive points outweigh the niggles.
