“Excellent New Years Eve”

Had a great stay here for New Years Eve The hotel is very nice staff extremely friendly The bed rooms are being refurbished The food was very good New Year was excellent with good food piper fireworks and the band was excellent Very entertaining

“Great hotel and spa. Slight mishap”

My partner and I stayed on Friday 3rd Jan for a spa retreat. The spa was lovely and pretty quiet and the treatments were lovely. The hotel was good and the newly refurbished room we had was nice. Most of the staff were pleasant and helpful so overall the stay was very good. There was just one thing that let our stay down, which I hope the management will address. When we went for our evening meal in Redmonds Brasserie, all was going really well, albeit the service was a bit slow. But when our mains came out, it took a turn for the worse. I had ordered steak with peppercorn sauce. The waiter brought it over with the peppercorn sauce on the plate and tipped the sauce all over my hands and my brand new cream pants! The waiter stood there as if nothing had happened and said ‘this has never happened to me before’ instead of sorry. All the while my hand and legs were burning. So I asked the waiter to help me get the sauce off my hands and he wiped it with a serviette. Once the initial shock wore off, I ran to the toilet. My partner sat and ate his steak without me while I was trying to get the peppercorn sauce off my pants and trying to calm the burns with cold water. I returned to the table, luckily with superficial burns and a few stains on my pants.. by the time I returned, my food had been sat there a long time and was cold. I saw the waiter in question visit a few tables nearby quite a few times since the accident but not once did he come over to apologise. The staff then said they would bring over the bill without offering any kind of apology or discount on the bill, even though our meal was ruined. I did speak to the manager to say I wasn’t happy paying for food but would pay for the drinks - to which she agreed. Also, my pants did get sent off for dry cleaning by the reception staff.. what I wasn’t happy with was the lack of apology or offer to reduce the bill in anyway until I mentioned this.. I know that accidents happen but had I been a child or elderly, with more sensitive skin OR if the peppercorn sauce was slightly warmer - this could’ve been a different story. I hope that measures will be put into place to prevent this happening again? Maybe sauces shouldn’t be put on the plates and served separately?? So, I would’ve given 5 stars, if I had received proper apology for the accident. This is the only thing that let our trip down

As other reviews have pointed out we were a little disappointed with the courtyard rooms. I suppose more information when booking should be provided so we know we are outside of the hotel. The hotel is set in a stunning Location with vast grounds. Very clean throughout with excellent Christmas decorations making it a very festive visit. We booked the hotel based on the facilities on offer. Even though it was a weekend the Vines & Goldies were closed. This made booking a table for the brasserie extremely difficult. We also couldn't get a seat in the lobby bar in the evening. The hotel seemed overbooked to accommodate everyone with these facilities closed. We also walked over to the Childrens play area after breakfast to find out it was shut. None of the above was communicated with us during check in. We had to ask at reception. The 'gaming area' is also and untidy hut at the entrance to the driving range.
