Lovely stay in this iconic hotel. Old fashioned grandeur with great service. Hotel was dressed for Christmas so was very impressive. Staff were courteous and helpful. Lovely stay in this iconic hotel. Old fashioned grandeur with great service. Hotel was dressed for Christmas so was very impressive. Staff were courteous and helpful. Stayed in room 146 which was described as deluxe. Very comfortable and a decent size although the outlook was of an air conditioning unit and a run down office block. Bathroom was a little dated which I suppose goes with the age of the hotel. Shower was little more than a dribble. Lovely Elemis toiletries. Bedroom turn down service was good although no chocolate left on pillow!! Continental breakfast in Brasserie restaurant was good. Varied choices on menu and good service.

I have been staying here on and off for the last 22 years having been married at the hotel back in 2002. It is starting to look a little tired now, but the staff and location make up for it. We didn’t have a great experience with breakfast on our 1st day, but we spoke to the concierge and the following day had a much better meal. (With a refund for the day before). The rooms are lovely, all amenities as you would expect. The staff are all excellent, friendly, professional and the service is generally very good. I always feel happy when returning, and am looking forward to going back next year.

Thank you to the staff of the hotel for looking after my wife and I and my mother. I would to give special thanks to Karina for her compassion and thoughtfulness at this sad time. My wife’s sister passed that morning after a lifetime of illness and the last two months in hospital severely poorly. … more

Thank you to the staff of the hotel for looking after my wife and I and my mother. I would to give special thanks to Karina for her compassion and thoughtfulness at this sad time. My wife’s sister passed that morning after a lifetime of illness and the last two months in hospital severely poorly. The restaurant was a different experience. We enjoyed the food but the service is sadly lacking. We were left for at least 45 mins without any acknowledgement from the brasseries staff! A guest shouldn’t be forgotten. Breakfast was also a bit off with three waiters falling over us when we were seated. Then no one attended us without our intervention, we ended up asking for everything, again we felt forgotten. I understand we are vulnerable at this moment in time but there is a standard to uphold which none of us felt was in place. G&S R

The hotel looked amazing. The location, Christmas decoration’s, concierge, ambience and welcome on arrival was great. Our room was perfect with a huge comfortable bed and despite no view as such from the window, no complaints. However, we made our way to the bar we were told someone would come to our table to take our order. We waited….5 minutes later someone came over to take or order…..waited and waited…. No service. We could see our drinks sitting on the bar but waited another 5 minutes or so for someone to bring them over. It wasn’t busy at all. Our friends then joined us and ordered their drinks. We asked for the bill to be spilt but this seemed to be too complex for the lady serving us so we said we’d sort it out ourselves…..Breakfast….. be mindful that only a continental breakfast is included in the price of an overnight stay so we decided to pay the additional cost for a full English. Personally we wouldn’t bother paying for this, it wasn’t that nice and the service was poor. Waited ages and had to keep asking for extra toast etc as only 6 slices between four of us! The same thing happened on day 2. We ordered fruit juice and tea to start. Received the tea and when I asked about the juice the response from the waiter was “we are busy”. Ordered cereal, toast and pastries. Porridge turned up with no syrup (as indicated in menu) at this point I just put some honey that was on the table on it as I couldn’t be bothered to wait. We had to ask for extra toast as again only 6 slices provided for 4 of us. No pastries arrived and when we asked the staff doubted that we’d ordered them and again said “we are busy”. The dining room was only half full both mornings. When we checked out our bill ours was much higher than expected and our friend’s breakfasts and drinks had been added to our room despite us saying we need to split this bill. To top it all off when we asked for an itemised bill to sort it all out we were told that the printers were “all busy”….This hotel despite its grandeur and excellent location has left a lot to be desired to be honest and I doubt we will return.
