“Superb 5 star hotel in centre of Chester”

4th visit this year. We were in Room 210. Large room on 2nd floor facing the main street. King size bed. Nice bathroom . Meals in the brasserie excellent as usual. Staff wonderful. Very fast service. Booked again January Definitely worth staying here

Hotel is in great location, couldn't be better. Hotel is in great location, couldn't be better. Parking is in the Grosvenor shopping centre car park (separate from hotel and charged at £10 for 24 hours) and hotel is accessible from a private entrance on level 2 with lift to all floors. Arriving on Friday lunchtime we had to go to floor 4 to find a space and on Saturday after returning from a trip out we had to go to the roof to find a space. Not ideal for the less mobile but there is a hotel drop of point on level two too. Reception check in was slick and we were showed to our room on the second floor. We booked an executive room so I assume this is what we got. Small entrance hall with wardrobes and a small area with tray, kettle, tea coffee etc and minibar with fresh milk. It was all quite well thought out except no socket to plug kettle into, this had to be done in the bedroom which was a shame. Bathroom with bath/shower over, heated towel rail which made the room very hot and no way to turn off or down. Beautiful towels, bath robes and elemis toiletries to use. Bath enamel was peeling in places but as an estate manager I know the battle trying to keep these old baths enameled and hygienic.  The bedroom was spacious with an enormous bed which was very comfortable and we slept well both nights. We ate in Le brasserie one night and my husband said the room smelt  musty and damp. I had a slight cold so couldn't detect this but he was quite overwhelmed by the smell which somewhat detracted from his beautifully cooked filet steak.  Having ventured out I wouldn't recommend the restaurant as anything special when there is a vast selection of eateries within just a few minutes walk. The service was on point albeit slow but the lager selection was poor.   With the bar being in the restaurant (I don't think there was another separate bar) it didn't feel like a place to relax and have another drink after dinner so we headed out. This is a charming hotel without a doubt and has all of the usual refinements and services you expect from a 5 star establishment including one very annoying one!  We were disturbed from an afternoon nap on both days asking if we want a turn down service.  Would be better to ask this at check in rather than putting the poor housekeeping staff through having to ask this and potentially getting a flea in their ear from disturbed guests?  We had a full English breakfast on day two at an additional cost of £12.50 each. It was 'ok' but nothing special although the service cannot be faulted and we could have had cereals and pastries first if we had wanted.  All in all a great stay in a fabulous city and we will definitely be back and will definitely stay at the Grosvenor again. Management could do with looking at gaps under doors for fire safety.
