Pop in couple of times a week to catch up on emails and have a lovely pot of team..... Staff are always polite and a special mention to Garmon who goes out of his way to make you welcome, a lovely chap the hotel is always spotless clean...........

On our long weekend staying around the area we picked the Holiday Inn Chester West as this is an area we hadn't visited before, and seemed handy for locations along the North Wales coast. The Chester West Holiday Inn is situated on the A55 North Wales Expressway, and is just off the road in a services area, so if traffic noise bothers you this might not be the place for you. Though the double glazing is pretty good, it won't cut out all the noise (but if you're like me and rely on earplugs when staying at hotels it won't bother you at all). Our check-in clerk was an awesome guy, very chatty and informative about what we could find while exploring the locale (and we followed his advice with lots of awesome tourist spots not too far from the hotel). We were soon checked in and even though it was very late we were given a top floor room (which is always a bonus in any hotel - more in the recommendations after this review). The room was a little dated, but spotlessly clean as was the (weirdly laid out) bathroom. The bathroom was pretty tiny with the loo right next to the door which made for some interesting 'gymnastics' while sitting on it. But there was a nice deep bath and a shower, and nice quality towels so we weren't too bothered about the loo in the end. Carpets could do with replacing as they're very thin and wrinkled. Bed was extremely comfortable even for a double (though if you're on the large side you might find it a bit of a squeeze so opt for two doubles and kiss your partner tenderly before retiring to your own bed!) There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room which is always welcome to see after a long journey. Aside from the road noise the hotel was pretty quiet - again the bonus of being on a higher floor. Breakfast was really good, again a brilliant mix of hot and cold options with decent quality bean to cup coffee and friendly chatty breakfast staff. The car park is huge, so plenty of room even during busy times. There's a nearby Starbucks, McDonalds and an American Diner but read the reviews of these carefully before opting to eat at them. The location is great, head along the A55 for the highlights of the North Wales coast with quaint little seaside locations like Colwyn Bay and Llandudno (Avoid Rhyl though, it's horrible!) and plenty of countryside places for walks (though good luck finding any free parking, everywhere seems to charge between £1.50 and £7.50 for tw hours parking). Chester isn't too far away so I'd advise parking in the park and ride and getting the bus in, as this is the cheapest way to park near Chester and the bus only takes about 10 minutes to get right into the centre. I think the only slight annoyance about the location of the hotel (and this is no fault of the hotel itself) is the fact that if you need to head east, you need to travel quite some distance down the road to come back on yourself as the hotel is only accessible from the westbound A55 - and with the amount of diversions and road closures around the area at the moment you might find roads closed with little or no notice in the evenings and at night (and sometimes even in the day) so if you've got an up to date satnav you might still get caught out. Overall though we spent 3 nights here and were made very welcome and comfortable by the staff who are a credit to the company.

Well appointed, clean and comfortable room. We appreciated having a small fridge. Although this is near the A55, we found our room to be quiet. The staff were welcoming and friendly (reception and bar/restaurant). Good choice of breakfast items in the buffet - including pastries, yoghurt and fruit. The restaurant menu has a long list of international items. There are also a few chef specials. We didn't have high hopes, but we enjoyed what we ordered both nights we ate in; fish, chicken, beef and fresh veg all perfectly cooked. The French wines we had were very acceptable too. Plenty of parking at the hotel - the surrounding fast food areas do get congested. This is a busy service area. Note too that the A55 can be far from an expressway with frequent holdups.
