“Lovely hotel if your coming to Brighton the old ship is a must”

We stayed for 4 nights at the old ship wonderful hotel very clean & comfortable, our room was very nice and quiet it was at the back of the hotel ok! not the greatest of views from the window but the sea is only a few mins away and so quiet too we slept really well Room 102 the dining room is lovely the food was delicious lots to choose from and the breakfast was great fruit yogurt croissant, toast and a brilliant cooked breakfast the staff were all absolutely lovely nothing was too much trouble for them,the hotel is right on the seafront so we were in the heart of Brighton & the lanes only a short walk away. Lovely walks at night I would say if your coming to Brighton the old ship is a must enjoy 👍

“Cheap little getaway.”

Great cheap one night getaway. Paid £62 for one night, excellent value. Have stayed here before but not long after Covid, so things were still off limits. This time, was great. Great cheap one night getaway. Paid £62 for one night, excellent value. Have stayed here before but not long after Covid, so things were still off limits. This time, was great. Room was nice, bed comfy. Was noisy from adjacent bars but having stayed here before we knew that. Bar was open and great range of drinks. Singer outside keeping people entertained. Football on the TV for those interested. My wife’s only complaint was that the cocktails were well over priced for the size you get, I mean she is an expert and drinking them 😂. Overall, brilliant. Thank you.

I have only rated this hotel 3 stars (rather than 2) because of the good staff and sea view from the room. However - while I understand that this is a historic building and there are challenges to keeping it up to date, it really is looking very tired. We found the staff (with one exception) to be very friendly, professional and helpful. We were upgraded on arrival to a sea view room, which we appreciated - the view was excellent. The room was clean enough and the bedlinen crisp. However, there was plaster coming off the ceiling; all woodwork was very worn, there was a shower curtain (not seen in a hotel bathroom for a long time) and the pillows were really poor quality. Another thing to consider is that it’s quite noisy - not the fault of the hotel but it is very central and at weekends the road outside is busy. It was a business stay however, with another party having arranged and paid (we thought for 2 nights) so we were just happy to be in a central location and have a sea view. The issue arose after our first night - due to a mistake by the organisers, it became clear that a second night hadn’t been booked. After this was politely made clear by housekeeping staff, I tried to reach reception to sort it out. However the phone in the room would not make outgoing calls, and all my attempts to call the hotel from my mobile failed (long wait on hold then disconnected). Eventually I was called by reception and told I needed to leave the room as a second night had not been booked. The staff member was very brisk and rude, implying I was lying when I said I had been trying to ring reception. She also said that they were fully booked, when a quick look at Booking.com showed there were a number of vacant rooms. Eventually the situation was sorted out by my husband returning from his conference to speak to the manager but needless to say it was really stressful and quite upsetting. A shame really as all the other staff we spoke to were really lovely and helpful. I wouldn’t stay again.
