Excellent food, amazingly supportive staff, outstanding service, great swimming pool, and a lovely room. We booked for next year before leaving which shows how good we thought it was. We left recharged, happy and looking forward to our return.

“Fantastic Christmas break”

A great 3 night Christmas break in a well run and friendly hotel. Food, staff and entertainment were first class. Great value for money and spa facilities and treatments we had were excellent. We would definitely pay a return visit next Christmas but before if possible. Would highly recommend.

Probably our 10th Xmas party night at The Connaught . Always great food and service from Simon & Marias hard working team . The Turkey this year was amazing . Rooms always clean and well done. Enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi before dinner too . See you soon .. Simon & Jo

As a family of five, with two daughters over 18 and one under 18, we booked three rooms - including the Tulip Suite. We stayed on a half board basis for two of our three nights. After a challenging journey (6 hours), we managed to squeeze into a car park space (literally - spaces are small and limited) and made our way over to Reception to check in. I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of excitement. This was the same hotel I visited for many years as a child. I was looking forward to sharing the experience with my wife and our girls. The three night stay (3 rooms for 3 nights, HB for 2 nights - and B&B for the other) was never going to be a bargain basement price at this hotel, and the cost was to be just over £1400. Any sense of excitement and anticipation was soon lost when we met the woman in Reception. She talked ridiculously quickly, and then had the nerve to try to charge us over £1900. She thrust the card payment machine my way and immediately I recognised that she was on the verge of overcharging us. I pointed out the error. No warmth or apology was coming from her. She simply switched to show the correct price/amount - as agreed with Booking.com. The fact that she could have effectively stolen £500 from us in a heartbeat - caused me to snap into ‘high vigilance mode’. Was this going to be the Connaught experience?? Thankfully - it got much better… +Rooms were comfortable - beds in particular were excellent. + Breakfasts (buffet style) were superb. + The spa (pool, sauna and steam room) were exceptional. + Service from staff in the restaurant and bar was superb. Tomas in particular was highly attentive. + The spa treatment I received was highly professional and exceptionally relaxing! ( Male facial) + Rooms were kept clean and tidy, and the hotel looked good and well-dressed for Christmas. +I saw other Reception staff giving people warm and friendly welcomes! + Food quality at dinner was ‘ good’!! + Gin bar is exceptional! A few shortcomings in my view (in addition to Reception antics) - Choice on evening menu is limited. For example 2 x pate options (chicken and mackerel)) and only a fairly small colllection plate - When you’re paying for 3x rooms - you might expect parking to be included in the rate. For the avoidance of doubt - parking was not included for us. On balance, I would recommend this hotel. (On a personal note - it brought back many happy memories too.) We left feeling refreshed. Just keep your wits about you when you’re checking in.
