“Pembroke get away”

A few days exploring Pembrokeshire, and this hotel was a great location to explore many historical features, with a short run to Pembroke city and Tenby. Lovely hotel building and very good staff.

This is a nice hotel - which could be so much better. It has a lovely aspect and atmosphere and all-in-all, we enjoyed our short stay. It is - as many others have pointed out - quite jaded but the tariffs don't reflect this. We paid more than warranted for a room which was described as Superior but which fell well short. Apart from its size, there was nothing out of the ordinary - not even complimentary water. There were none of the usual luxuries you'd expect; in fact, there was no shampoo; the Hand and Body Wash in the shower was completely empty - and the equivalent dispenser at the wash basin was broken. Sadly, I hadn't noticed until it was too late and I was dripping wet. I had to use Conditioner to 'wash' with! The hairdryer was the type which I thought had been outlawed to be honest. One of those toy type things that you need to keep your finger on the 'on' button which makes it impossible to style your hair at the same time. It spoiled the night really as I wanted to look nice and I felt (and looked) like I'd been dragged through a bush backwards - and still smelled of chlorine from the hot tub. Our main meal in the evening was very nice, but we had to ask for our bottle of wine 3 times. It eventually arrived after we'd finished eating - and even then, I had to scout around for some glasses. The puddings (again, had to ask twice) were poor. Breakfast was well cooked. We did use the steam room, hot tub and swimming pool - which were fine. The location and setting are great, but the hotel itself is looking very tired. Tips: Take your own hairdryer and shampoo. Visit the fabulous Bishop's Palace right next door.

The surroundings were lovely. A nearby ruined Palace was easily accessible at no cost and became the highlight of our stay. The surroundings were lovely. A nearby ruined Palace was easily accessible at no cost and became the highlight of our stay. The pool was really lovely after a long day on the road although not all therapies were available as advertised. Food was good as was the service. On the down side the cleanliness left a lot to be desired with many hairs (not mine) on the bathroom floor and stains on all the linen. On top of this as we were preparing to leave (well before checkout) the cleaners had accumulated outside our door talking loudly and appeared to be waiting for us to leave so they could clean the room.

“Nice but the spa needs sorting out”

We stayed here for 2 nights as a treat for my friends 60th and specifically chose it for the spa. We knew that the sauna and steam rooms were open on alternate days but only the sauna was open on 2 consecutive days meaning we never got to use the steam room which I wanted to use as I have a lung condition and steam rooms really help with it. The chemicals in the jacuzzi were so strong that we had to get out after 5 minutes as our eyes were stinging. There was no costume spinner in the ladies changing room yet there was one in the gents. They provide shampoo in the showers but no conditioner so our hair ended up like straw! I was surprised to hear that they have paying members for the spa, personally I would want a discount if I was paying a membership! We spent over £100 on an evening meal of steak and it was detailed as coming with mushrooms, chips, onion rings and tomato, I requested no tomato, when it came out the waitress said “no to tomato”, yet the kitchen staff didn’t think that tomato in the salad counted!! The flush on the toilet in our room took over 10 minutes to refill, which is totally unacceptable!
