Pure excellence in hospitality. The hotel has so much to offer in regard to accommodations, spa services, food offerings, and exceptional service in all areas. My wife and I notice the fine details and our expectations were exceeded. We personally enjoyed the package that our travel agency put together, but we feel booking directly could be equally satisfying.

“Refurbished”

It's been recently refurbished, the public areas and rooms are excellent. The spa is very well done. Hotel guests get complimentary use from 8.00-10.00 and 19.00-21.00. There is very limited parking, it has to be booked in advance and is £40 per night. We used a nearby multistorey. Breakfast is £... more

It's been recently refurbished, the public areas and rooms are excellent. The spa is very well done. Hotel guests get complimentary use from 8.00-10.00 and 19.00-21.00. There is very limited parking, it has to be booked in advance and is £40 per night. We used a nearby multistorey. Breakfast is £30 per head if booked in advance and £40 on the day. We went to the Ivy instead. Small gymnasium with a few machines and some dumbells. Overall a nice stay.

“Great city centre hotel!”

I stayed at The Gainsborough recently for a business conference. The bedrooms are very clean with attractive decor. Nice toiletries and a small minibar included in the stay. My only criticism of the bedroom is that it was incredibly hot despite my air conditioning on a low temperature. The food throughout the conference was delicious and plentiful and they were excellent at providing for the dietary requirements in our party. We had a private dining experience put on by the hotel which was superb. The food was excellent and the staff are incredibly attentive! My glass was never empty! Isaac in the bar makes a wonderful Pornstar Martini & is very friendly. A shame the bar doesn’t stay open later for residents. I didn’t get a chance to experience the spa as the timings it is included for residents is very restricted - really you have to forego breakfast or dinner to be able to go. Which is a shame. The location is fabulous with the city centre on the doorstep. Overall, a very enjoyable experience!

“Disappointing hotel in central location.”

Not impressed by this hotel. We stayed for 2 nights. Some things were good - the bed was comfortable and pillows nice. Curtains thick to keep light out. BUT the entrance is basic and very minimalist and guests are only permitted in the pool twice a day during meal times (8-10am and 7 til 9pm)... more

Not impressed by this hotel. We stayed for 2 nights. Some things were good - the bed was comfortable and pillows nice. Curtains thick to keep light out. BUT the entrance is basic and very minimalist and guests are only permitted in the pool twice a day during meal times (8-10am and 7 til 9pm) - swimming outside these hours is £75 each. We paid £40 a head for breakfast included and the pot of tea was made with 1 Twinings tea bag which in a big pot tasted like dishwater. I note when you order tea after breakfast in the adjacent sitting room, they bring loose leaf tea. Also the hollandaise was tasteless on the eggs. Nothing homemade in the breakfast buffet. Just standard fare. So overall this hotel felt 4 * certainly not 5*. It did not feel luxury.
