We had the best day here for our wedding. The staff, venue, food and everyone else that the venue used for our wedding all made it the best day for us. Right down the the final little things. Incredible place. Can’t recommend enough. We will be back again soon to visit

Stopped here to visit Polish Map of Scotland.......amazing! Decided to have lunch......well......Absolutely delicious! 2 courses, beautifully presented and excellent service. £15.95 for 2 courses or £19.95 for 3 courses. Fantastic value. I would highly recommend.......wish I lived nearer!

We attended for the murder mystery event, which was awful. However this was a 3rd party production so outwith the control of the hotel. The hotel itself was nice. Rooms quite dated but warm and clean. The food and bar service were good, my gluten free requirements were covered at dinner and breakfast with no issues. We visited the pool/sauna which were nice.

“An amazing venue which falls below the 4 start expected standard ”

I booked a deluxe room for an overnight stay in a Friday evening. This was a dinner bed and breakfast deal for my wife's birthday. On arrival the reception staff was polite and booked us in no problem. But in heading to the 3rd floor to our room I began noticing signs of obvious wear and tear everywhere. Carpet threadbare, paint flaking and scuff marks and chips on the walls. On entering our room, room 303 I was very disappointed. In my opinion it was in no way an deluxe room. Average at best. Paint was coming off a small part of the ceiling, again lots of scuff marks on the walls. But also clear signs of something being spilled on the wall near the bed and the dressing table. The dressing table itself was bubbled on the top and was clearly water damaged. The bathroom was fairly clean but large areas of black mould on the silicone at the shower tray. In all honesty we've stayed in cleaner and better maintained Premier inns. I didn't complain as I didn't want to spoil the evening and was of the opinion that most rooms would likely be of the same standard. We later had dinner in the restaurant and ordered Chicken Supreme. Asking surg and extra portion of vegetables. To be fair it was a decent portion and very tasty. However, it came with a number if small sage and onion dough balls. Perfect for a roast chicken dish. But they were that hard I could have fired them for a musket from the castle ramparts!! I couldn't even cut them with my knife after they were soaked in the gravy!!! We had breakfast the following morning which was a buffet style and I couldn't fault it. I cannot comment on the spa as we didn't get to it. It's clear that money needs to be spent to bring the venue way back up to the standard expected from a 4 star hotel. At present it falls way beyond that. I appreciate its a very old building but that does not excuse failings in cleanliness and simple maintenance like touching up paint work and ensuring shower trays are mould free. I would like to say though that the staff were very friendly a polite.
