Pera Palace Hotel

“Good enough”

Small but adequate room in old but nicely removated building. Enough plugs for electronic devices. Nice view of the water, but the price for the view is a noisy street. Still, the noise was not really a problem. Bathroom was small but adequate, but no wall hooks. All in all, good enough.

We always wanted to stay at the Pera Palace Hotel and we finally did it! Our stay was for my birthday and in general it was good (we booked the Greta Garbo Corner Room). However, there are some aspects that could be improved that we want to pass over although we already expressed some during check out: Good points: - Concierge and porters were really helpful and friendly. - Was helped and escorted to the room, there is always someone greeting and welcoming us. - Room well appointed, large and bright. Bad points: - The bathroom only has one bathrobe provided and somehow smelt like sweat and body odour all the time. - Not happy with the Spa massage should’ve lasted 60mins but she finished 10mins earlier. I tried to make a point to the spa receptionist but seems like he just ignored it and presented the bill and tried to upsell more stuff to me. - Lastly, on check out, we were really disappointed as they charged 2 x room service breakfast when our breakfast is already paid and included. Larisa on check out had to ask her manager to come out and say that he cannot do anything for us as we used “additional service”. We believe that a 5 star hotel like the Pera Palace should let their guests enjoy breakfast in the comfort of their own rooms. Nobody explained to us that room service breakfast is an additional charge otherwise we would’ve gone downstairs to eat. Room service team did not understand us much when we tried to explain, they just keep saying “don’t worry, it’s ok it’s ok” We also understand that if there is room service delivered to the room, we are more than happy to pay for the delivery charge/tray charge but not the full cost if it’s already included. On top of that, we had exactly the same breakfast for the 2 days but on the bill, the charges were different amount. The last day was more expensive and we received less food. The manager and receptionist listened to us but not even a single apology was given. The manager decided to remove just 10% off, and removed one of the tips for F&B that has an incorrect amount. This is not a fair conclusion as we were not happy to pay at all, this was not communicated properly to us. We did not want to make a scene so just unhappily agreed to pay. The manager just disappeared and Larisa handled everything at the end. Overall, It’s very sad and disappointing as if we knew, we would’ve gone downstairs to eat breakfast and not pay an unexpected cost at the end. Finally, we both work in the hotel industry both front of house employees. We do not like to complain as we know how it feels. But we strongly believe that the check out process should’ve been more smooth and considerate. Overall, thank you to all the staff who made our stay memorable!

Beautiful hotel that’s resting on its laurels. We had a mixed experience - double rooms are comfortable but not special. Breakfast buffet was good with good service. Otherwise the restaurant was average and to food unexciting. Service in the bar for drinks or tea was poor, over 30 minutes to get a drink was normal. Generally the staff don’t seem well trained or engaged. Overall for the price you expect better service and comfort.
