Istanbul Marriott Hotel Sisli

My wife and I had a layover in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines so decided to stay an extra night for a 2 night stay. Beautiful hotel in the center of Istanbul. Staff were courteous and the hotel and room were immaculate. Huge indoor pool and sauna and steam room were massive. Lady at the desk in the spa in the evening was very accommodating as we had arrived late in evening close to the pool closing time. She definitely made our night. Access to the pool and sauna after the flight definitely made a huge difference. Extra security when we arrived. No vehicles allowed into the front of hotel with metal detectors and baggage had to be put through detectors when we arrived similar to airport security. Hotel is about 30 minute walk from the river and the tourist nightlife and although hotel recommended a taxi, we felt very safe walking around the area at night to stretch the legs after a long flight. Distinct lack of drunk abusive people in the streets of the city at night unlike many other countries which was quite refreshing. Music playing in coffee shops, guys making chocolate and people eating in restaurants at 3AM. All very civilized. There are more expensive Marriott’s closer to the river but I believe this is the shopping area of the city and the standard of the hotel made up for being slightly further out. We did a sightseeing run around the city from the hotel the next day and again felt very safe running around the city. Amazing panoramic views from the Executive Lounge and great selection of food there. Restaurant had a lady sitting on the floor making traditional flat bed during breakfast which was quite cool. Will definitely come back to both Istanbul and this hotel for more days the next time to experience more of what it has to offer. Nothing to do with the hotel but we always take Uber normally when we travel. Uber is a complete scam at the Istanbul airport so recommend just getting a regular cab and they take credit cards in the taxi. About $25-30 which is not bad for the airport being 25 miles outside the city. A Marriott courtesy bus would be a good addition.
