We stayed three nights at the hotel asia The welcome was efficient with bags being delivered to our room The hotel is air conditioned with public areas being over chilled and the room being best described as freezing – the thermostat did not work so we turned the air con off vis a high tech switch panel that also controls the lights The room was clean and very well appointed Breakfast was excellent The pool on the roof top offers a welcome break and relaxation The staff were friendly and helpful Locally to the hotel we ate at … the Chinese just round the corner – turn left out of the hotel , first left , then up an ally to the right 13.751857178047935, 100.53054097644353 – excellent food terrific value … Hungry Nerd – just over foot bridge – basic fare at a good price While in Bangkok we …. Visited Jim Thompson house just five minutes walk away … travelled to the Wat Sa Ket Ratchaworamahawihan (The Golden Mount) on the ferry boat again just five minutes walk …. From the golden temple take a tut tut to Grand palace – not to be missed …. we used the sky train to the ferry terminal to take an twilight cruse on river on the White Orchid River Cruise seeing the main sights on the outward journey – being illuminated on the return Would happily use the hotel on a future visit

PROS: Most things. CONS: Only 3 settings on aircon. LOCATION: Close to local eateries and next to metro. REVIEW: Stayed Nov-2024 for 3 nights in Executive twin room without breakfast. Beautiful huge reception area. Foreign currency accepted for check-in deposit. 6*lifts (3 of which are fast that skips the lower floors). Good cleaning, fresh sheets every day and all toiletries replaced. Shower over-bath had partial screen and curtain. Aircon had 3-setting only (high, medium and low) – no temperature setting. Had to keep entering password when returning to hotel. Buffet breakfast on 3rd floor for 360 thb looked good but we didn’t have it. Pool on 12th floor is small and 1.2 metres deep. Dedicated luggage storage with attendant. 1st floor has a corridor that leads directly to the entrance of the metro station (saving you going up and down the metro station stairs and public pathways). Lots of local eateries 10 minutes walk behind hotel.

Well maintained budget hotel. The lobby and reception is very dark and despite the beautiful chandeliers hanging in the foyer I really didn’t like it. (Too dark- Get some light in there please). Check-in was painless and quick. You need to leave BHT 1000 to cover any accidental damage which is returned to you upon checking out. Our room was an Executive room - spacious and had an extremely large bed, which was very comfortable and had good pillows. Air-con was also good. We were on 9th floor looking towards main road at front. The view looks better at night. We could still hear the traffic a little but it wasn’t bothersome. There is a fridge, TV with Netflix too and plenty English channels, free security safe, tea/coffee/kettle and 2 bottles of water every day for you. Toiletries are also provided and are quite nice. Considering its age the hotel is in really good shape and kept very clean although the decor is dark and carpets need a clean in areas. There are payable Restraunts inside hotel - we ate at the Amber restaurant and had amazing and tasty food and as a guest we got 10% off. (Which was the taxes in reality). Breakfast was included in our stay and this also was very good - typical Asian- nice omelettes - no English sausage or bacon mind, but still plenty of choices. The small pastries are delightful as is the coffee. The WiFi worked well when it was working but I did have to keep re-logging in to it on my phone once we left the hotel and came back. A couple of times it was off and couldn’t get tv on either. Good enough for a quick FaceTime home when it was on. There are 2 pools one on level 5 but this was very dark and shaded and there is one the roof at level 12 - this was unshaded and no parasols so very very hot and not for the faint hearted. But it is where you will get your tan. The pool is only 1.2metres deep. Free pool towels are provided at the pool side. There is room service if needed - prices seemed ok too. As there are no balconies or windows that open so we struggled to dry our items in the room. There is no smoking in this hotel apart from at the main front door where it is covered. Although we did get the smell of someone smoking at 5am, coming through the vent in our bathroom. Beware there is a fine for smoking in rooms - Level 2 gets you straight on to the sky train - we didn’t use this, but did use the escalator in hotel to get across the road via the sky train entrance. There are good eateries across the road. Walked in to town takes 10mins. There is a 7/11 shop just outside of hotel to the right so stock-your fridge up. All the staff are lovely and so polite. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again if I was in Bangkok in the future. But ask for a high up floor. However, I would say it was a 3 star not 5.

We have stayed at this hotel twice before. I was somewhat disappointed with this third stay. We booked an executive room with breakfast included. The first room we were allocated on the 9th floor was very dirty. There were stains on the carpet and walls and the room had a strange aroma that certainly was not pleasant. The fridge was rusty and dirty inside and froze everything solid. We stayed in the room for one night only. I went to reception to complain and we were moved to another room on the 9th floor. This room although still not great was better than the first one. The manager said that the first room would now be closed to guests so it could be renovated. Its a shame that they wait for a complaint before doing this. The breakfast room although large was very busy, one morning we had to wait for a table to be available. There seemed to be a lot of conferences on at the time making the hotel feel very busy. The pool area on the roof is pleasant apart from when the staff decide to trim the plants and expect the guests to move off their loungers to accommodate them. Also a bit of a concern to see an electric wire from their garden trimmer strapped up with tape right next to the swimming pool. The new reception area is impressive but very dark in my opinion. The hotel bar has been moved to the back of the reception area. They had signs up on an electric notice board near the lifts that stated that you could have buy one get one free draught beer all day every day. However this sign is misleading as apparently this offer is only on when they decide to put a manual notice board up next to the bar area. So not on offer all day every day but only when they feel like it. The positives to this hotel is that it is linked to the BTS station and only one stop to the airport rail link.

“LOST ITS CHARM”

I’ve stayed at the Asia a few times before and loved it for its quaintness (they used to put a mat in the lift showing the day of the week), old fashioned charm, service, location, facilities and value for money. I’ve stayed at the Asia a few times before and loved it for its quaintness (they used to put a mat in the lift showing the day of the week), old fashioned charm, service, location, facilities and value for money. Unfortunately that’s no more. No shops in the lobby, the foyer is a huge garish chandelier-like construction, service is efficient but lacks charm. While the main areas have been refurbished, lots of conference and business spaces, the rooms are still a bit old and tired, dark brown wood and ancient bathrooms. It now has a metro station just outside, it’s still convenient and the price is OK, but I wouldn’t stay there again.
