The service is impeccable from booking enquiries to last minute changes to our pick up location (as sbb decided to close Grindelwald station for the 2 days of our stay and we had to be picked up at Grindelwald terminal) to checkin and all the way to checkout. We stayed in room 225 in the Family room «Mettenberg» · Views of the Eiger. Our first day was blessed with sunny slightly overcast skies and the room really offered fantastic views of Eiger. The second day, the clouds and mist rolled in and covered the mountain tops but the room still offered some fantastic view of the rolling hills below. The hotel is in a prime location with glorious views. The room is spacious and it was nice to be able to spread out. There is a small second bedroom with a bunk bed and a small shower and toilet. The main bedroom had a lounge seating area, and large ensuite with double vanity and shower over tub, toilet and separate bidet. It was a like a mansion after coming from staying in a 22sqm room for 6 nights. Due to the Grindelwald station closure there was chaos at Grindelwald Terminal and the bus network was strained and burst at the seams. Thankfully we were able to make a last minute change with our pick up time and location on our arrival and the reception team handled things brilliantly. Our porter picked us up at the Grindelwald Terminal bus stop and whisked us away from the crowds. Check in was quick and friendly. And it was lovely having water and apples available at the check in desk. We left our luggage and went straight to exploring the area. We had our welcome drinks the next day on the balcony outside. The complimentary nuts that came with the drinks were lovely. The large open lobby lounge had stunning views of Eiger and the valley. In the afternoon, cake is available for guests to try. The hotel has a small bar and a few pool tables for billards. The pool was a welcome relief from the rain on our second day. The jacuzzis (one inside and the other outside) were lovely and warm. The steam room was also a welcome retreat. We didn’t try the spa or massage but the area looked inviting. Breakfast was great with lovely regional cheese, hot veggie soup, rice, cereals, fresh fruit, 5min eggs, sunny side up eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, yoghurt (including lactose free), bread and lovely crisply croissants. We spoilt ourselves with half board package as part of our booking and couldn’t have been happier. On our for night we had Beetroot tartar with fresh cheese cream and balsamic vinegar, a salad buffet (various salads,corn, tuna, cucumber, sliced , hard boiled eggs, a variety of sauces, crispy melt in your mouth croutons, a variety of vinegars and olive oils.); the main was a selection of Lentil curry with wild rice and Asian vegetables or Sea bream with courgettes, parsley potatoes and feta sauce or Chicken supreme with breaded croquettes and mushrooms with chasseur sauce Both the fish and chicken were delicious. Dessert was a delicious carrot cake with ice cream. The restaurant staff were friendly and the elderly gentleman who served us, was such a character and even gave our son a second serving of chicken on our fist night. On the second night the restaurant was packed (most likely due to the inclement rain outside) which meant that service was ok but not as personable as the first night. But the food was just as delicious though. The menu was different on the second night. For Entree we had Prawn cocktail with salad mix, followed by a salad buffet. For mains on our second night the options were Cauliflower steak with lukewarm hummus and tahini or Poached plaice fillet with bulgur and tomatoes or Pork neck with mashed potato and celery with mustard sauce For desert we had taramsu Drinks are extra which was expected and as we’re not alcohol drinkers, the range of non alcoholic beverages and mocktails was appreciated. Overall we would definitely come back and would highly recommend this hotel.
