Hotel Walhalla

“Superb”

An excellent hotel, with a super location right across the main train station and a few steps from Old Town. The rooms were spacious, luxurious, and extremely comfortable. The service was excellent. There are a lot of restaurants and bars really close by. I highly recommend this hotel!

First for the good: -Friendly, helpful service at reception (although a bit worrisome was that at first she told me the room might not be ready yet, even though it was on the dot of 2 pm when check-in is supposed to be; however she checked with housekeeping and just a few minutes later told me it was ready) -Spacious, modern, clean room with a very comfortable bed and big desk -Big bathroom with big shower with rain head -Great breakfast with very good scrambled eggs and fresh, good bread, good selection of teas -Very well located, across the street from the train station and just under ten minutes walk to the old town -St. Gallen has so much personality! Was really my favorite of the Swiss cities I visited on this trip (not counting mountain towns) -Mostly very quiet inside the hotel And then the not so good: -A/C, which they advertise, seemed not to really work. Temperature was supposedly at 19, but I don't believe that's what the room was at, was very hot and stuffy. I had to leave the windows open and sleep with them that way. -Unfortunately because of leaving the windows open, the terrace below my room was a bit of an issue. People would sit out there and speak very loudly, and with the windows open, I heard most of it. It wasn't too bad of an issue because the weather wasn't nice enough for people to linger, but in weather any warmer, I wouldn't want to stay here. -No fridge or even minibar in the room, so you have no way of storing even basic refrigerated food like leftover half sandwich or butter, yogurt, etc. Overall I enjoyed this place and slept very well here. I would consider staying again, but only in cool weather.

Hotel was situated at the perfect location, it's just a few meters away from the train station and also within walking distance from main attractions in the city. Groceries and bus stops were also within reach. The breakfast was good, however menu was the same for the entire 4 days that we stayed.… more

Hotel was situated at the perfect location, it's just a few meters away from the train station and also within walking distance from main attractions in the city. Groceries and bus stops were also within reach. The breakfast was good, however menu was the same for the entire 4 days that we stayed. They were regularly changing our towels however, they weren't actually cleaning the room as I can feel that the floor was a bit sandy. Overall it was still a good stay, although the staff needs to probably be a little bit more friendlier.
