Beautiful place to round out a wonderful vacation. Beside the view, the people are all friendly, courteous and ready to please my every desire. Convenient to many great places to see.

Although we didn't have much time at this hotel due to a long delay on a flight, this hotel was amazing! It is very modern decor - white, black and red. There is a charming, chic little bar by the reception that I would have loved to have a drink in. The restaurant has huge windows overlooking the city, and there is outdoor seating on a nice day there as well. The breakfast had a huge selection of food. The rooms were nice, and the beds were comfortable. It was my daughter's graduation from college, and the staff wrote her a note in her room, and on her mirror they wrote all sorts of good wishes! What a way to stand out! We would definitely come back!

We stayed in room 501. Lovely views, quite a large balcony, light and airy bathroom also with views. Reception and concierge were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was good, with most of the usual offerings, but was quite pricey for what it was. The breakfast terrace with views over the lake was great. Service was efficient and friendly. A couple of observations. Our room had only limited wardrobe space, and nowhere to hang a normal length dress! My wife had dresses hanging in the bathroom off the robe hooks! Also, some guests obviously stay there as part of a tour. Luggage was collected at 5am one morning, quite noisily. Ask for a room away from any tour group rooms if you’re a light sleeper.

This is a very fine hotel with fantastic views across the lake and courteous and friendly staff. The breakfasts are superb, with individually prepared omelettes and fried eggs if required, though it would have been helpful to have been told on our first morning that this facility was still provided. Hotels in Luzern are expensive, and prices at the Montana have increased considerably in recent years. As a couple who have stayed at this hotel multiple times over three decades, we were delighted to be quoted a special rate for our loyalty. 400 CHF per night, plus taxes but including breakfast, was still well above our normal budget, but in anticipation of three nights of luxury we accepted the offer. The double room (218) which we were allocated was a massive disappointment. The hotel was built more than a century ago, when most rooms did not have private bathrooms. Clearly this room had been renovated at some point by adding a small bathroom in the corner, which of course reduced the size of the bedroom. The room key had another large key attached to it which, according to a member of staff, opened nothing. 218 must be the worst room in the building, though next door might be as bad, and it is a disgrace to such a prestigious hotel. The room is overlooked by other properties and is directly opposite the current renovation of a building. The room wasn't cleaned on one day, but that was my fault. In nearly every hotel that I've stayed in, the 'do not disturb/please make up my room' card is colour-coded (usually red/green). Not so at the Montana these days. The cards are in German and English and the significance of the colours (dark blue and white) differ by language. It was kind of the hotel to offer us the chance to stay at the Montana for what will probably be the last time, but we should have been warned that the offer was for a very low-grade room, the sort you wouldn't expect to find in such a splendid property.
