“First Visit”

Our first visit to this Beautiful City and it will certainly not be our last. The Hotel is in a fantastic location and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was sufficient to keep you going till lunch.

I stayed at the Hotel Zaragoza Royal for three nights in January 2019. As others have said, the location is good, about 20 minutes walk from the old city and there is a direct tram line if you want to use it. It's on a little side street off a main thoroughfare which means there is very little traffic noise. But I had a room facing the street and was kept awake by garbage trucks and noisy patrons at a bar directly opposite until all hours of the early morning, so maybe explore a room on the other side, away from the street. As others have also said, the decor is old and in need of refurbishment. The foyer has a sort of period charm about it (a bit like an old Hollywood movie) but there is damage in the rooms (I had broken bathroom tiles, for example) and the carpets and floors have seen better days, so the need for refurbishment goes beyond just considerations of fashion. Bathroom supplies are limited to shampoo, conditioner and a small soap. More lavish options shown in pictures online certainly weren't on offer in my room. The bedroom was adequate but the bed rather hard. Free wifi was good. The bedroom was very hot and stuffy (even in winter) but fortunately I could open the double glazed window to let in fresh air. The air conditioner wasn't working (I assume it only works in summer?) The staff were generally helpful, although the gentleman who checked me in didn't tell me about the breakfast buffet. The adjoining cafe is clearly marked (where there are limited breakfast options) but the buffet, with a much better selection (but worse coffee), is in another room and I didn't discover this until my second morning. I really wanted to like this hotel as I got the impression money's tight and I wanted to be sympathetic, but I think it's just gone that bit too far now. Unless some investment can be found for improvements I'm not sure I'd want to stay there again.
