This is a really charming and distinctive hotel, and you will love it if you are looking for a place with vintage character as opposed to contemporary glitz or the polished predictability of a contemporary chain hotel. The location is optimal for walking visits in the bustling old city centre. The hotel is a warren of interconnected old Andalusian houses with small internal courtyards adorned with fountains, lush vegetation and small nooks to sit and enjoy the calm oasis just metres from pulsing throng of the city. On the first floor the piano bar and adjoining public rooms are like a film set from bygone eras, reminiscent of a well-worn London private club. It was great to see that the hotel supports live music, and for two nights I enjoyed the eclectic performances of the house pianist Angel. (Long live music played by real musicians rather than piped music that is either insipid or at that annoying volume where it is either too loud if you don’t want it at all, or too quiet if you actually want to listen to it. ) The hotel staff were unfailingly helpful and cheerful, in particular Manuel at the piano bar. The rooftop offers another great set of small corners to hang out in near the small open air pool. Overall, very highly recommended.

We spent two nights here on a small-group tour. This is one of most unique hotels I've ever stayed at, which helped offset the negatives (like curtains that still let in a lot of light at night, and finicky coffee machines in the breakfast room that needed constant staff attention to remove stuck coffee pods). Our room was quite spacious and nicely decorated. We missed seeing the shower at first -- it was around the corner from the rest of the bathroom. The quirky layout of the entire hotel is one of its charms -- hidden courtyards and multiple stairways can make finding your way around a bit of a challenge, but it's a great place to explore. Don't miss the elegant piano bar for a drink or two! There's no restaurant aside from the breakfast room, but there are plenty of other places to eat in the area.
