Hosteria Sara does not have a reception. It is therefore very important that you have at hand the emails that they have sent you so you can enter the building (you will need a code) and can check-in. The check-in process involves filling in a form, writing your ID/passport details (which can be time consuming) and paying. To be honest that's pain in the ass, however you are getting a room in the high season for 40 eur per night so I guess that's OK. In case of an issue (or if you want to leave in a secure place your luggage on the day of departure after check-out) they have an office 5 min away and I have to say that they were helpful. The room (in my case the first floor) was accessible via an elevator or staircase and it was clean and tidy, with daily clean-up, a TV and a bathroom. Overall not modern or huge but I would say that it was very good value for money considering the location. The only issue is that the room is not very silent (we could hear the A/C machine outside our bedroom), so the conform during your sleep is not great. So to sum-up, incredibly good location in the city centre, clean and tidy basic hotel. If you are on a tight budget Hosteria Sara is a great option, if you can afford extra 20 eur/night and value a reception and are used to non-basic hotels this may not be for you.

Indeed, I agree with the last two reviews. When we first booked this hostel the reviews said it was “family own”. When we arrived the door was locked and not a soul in site. I went next door to a restaurant to inquired and they replied the hotel had changed hands the previous month. We saw a posted notice with a phone number to call. Since we had secured our reservation with a credit card we were given access. I was wondering if we use the elevator and malfunctions. Also, water was escaping from the toilet and who to inform. I also agree the place was clean and centrally located. The following day we saw other guests holding their phones, not very pleased waiting to gain access to their rooms via iPad. I miss saying “ good morning” to the person in the reception.

I would highly recommend this hostel for its price and location so close to the Plaza Major and great restaurants and ease of walking to the Cathedral and the University. I would highly recommend this hostel for its price and location so close to the Plaza Major and great restaurants and ease of walking to the Cathedral and the University. However, unless you travel with activated cell phone service, this place might prove to be a challenge. We had difficulty obtaining access via a vis a “virtual key” because Trip Advisor sent us the wrong code. Fortunately, we just happened upon a kind gentleman who was meeting a hostel employee there and we managed to get into the hotel and to our room. It was very stressful! The accommodations were very clean and comfortable and there was maid service and a room refrigerator. But no concierge or reception service whatsoever. Our lesson: travel with cell phone service from now on!! Email is not enough!
