“Hip and comfortable stay on the less-crowded side of Madrid Centro”

We stayed at the Hotel Reina Victoria for seven days in June 2024 for our first vacation in Madrid. We’d recommend the hotel without reservation. We found the hotel to be excellent - it’s got a great location on a pedestrian square in the Barrio de las Letras, close to all the major tourist cit... more

“Very comfortable hotel with a great location and staff who deliver a high quality service with a smile.”

My wife and I stayed several nights at this hotel. The location on the pretty Plaza Santa Anna is excellent, close to the city centre, lots of trees and greenery and packed with bars and restaurants. The hotel rooms are well appointed and quiet despite the noise on the square. The hotel reception... more

“Almost excellent, but not”

Almost excellent, but not. Superbly located (at least 100 restaurants, and bars within 4 block radius), well staffed with mostly polite employees and outwardly magnificent, the proximity to late night crowds and room size cost two stars.

“Great location but lacking the finishing touch”

Lovely hotel in a great location - a square with bars for a refreshing drink right outside. Rooms are well equipped but quite efficient from a size perspective, don’t think about leaving a suitcase open on the floor. Reception was also not very well organised, expect a wait to check in and an e... more

  • Yes, guests at ME Madrid Reina Victoria have highlighted that: We stayed at the Hotel Reina Victoria for seven days in June 2024 for our first vacation in Madrid. We’d recommend the hotel without reservation. We found the hotel to be excellent - it’s got a great location on a pedestrian square in the Barrio de las Letras, close to all the major tourist cites in the center and close to multiple metro stops, but in an area that doesn’t have the immense crowds of Plaza de Sol or Gran Via, walking distance to all the major museums, and with lots of restaurants around. The hotel was hip and interesting inside, staff was always friendly and helpful. The staff had great English skills, and were very indulgent about my attempts to remember high school Spanish. (I learned how to use “vale” and “buenos” like a Madrileno listening to them.). Breakfast was great - a wonderful selection of cold items (rolls, beautiful small croissants, pan e tomato, fruit, yogurt, cheese, meat) but they would also make omelets to order. The only thing I might have wanted was drip coffee (in addition to machine made espresso) for my American “large cup of coffee” preferences. The restaurant in the ground floor dining room made great mixed drinks and paella - an Aviation cocktail there was the best drink of the trip, and the waiter did a wonderful job explaining about fideo vs paella and showing how to mix up the crunchy rice from the bottom of the pan. The rooftop bar was also a fun place to relax when we didn’t feel like wandering out. The hotel also handled problems reasonably. We arrived at midnight due to a very delayed flight and ended up getting upgraded from a Superior Plaza View room to a room with terrace. The room lights were out due to an electrical problem. The night manager and maintenance person couldn’t get the lights working and the hotel was full, but were able to offer a fan (because of no a/c), and promised to inform the morning staff to switch us. The lights were an annoyance, but we were very happy with their attention and response. The morning staff had an electrician available first thing in the morning. We ended up staying in the terrace room for the whole trip - the terrace was very special - although the room itself was tight around the bed, having the equivalent of two rooms on the terrace was a wonderful place to relax in between exploring Madrid. I’ve got fond memories of looking out over Madrid in the early morning and watching a group of kids just out of the club singing “happy birthday” as they wandered the pre-dawn streets. I’d definitely stay in the Hotel Reina Victoria for my next trip, and I’d strongly consider trying to get a room with terrace again.
