We spent 2 nights at the Catalonia Plaza Mayor. It was our first stay with the Catalonia chain and we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are large, modern and very quiet (we had 2 rooms facing the street and you couldn't hear anything). The team at the hotel is friendly and very professional. Special thanks to Juan at the front desk that made our early arrival experience great. As soon as our rooms were ready he called us to let us know that we could check in early, he also gave us upgraded rooms. People like Juan make all the difference. Thank you!

“Practical, clean and friendly.”

Nice clean friendly hotel just a 10 minute walk from the main tourist area of Madrid. Receptionists were friendly and the rooms were perfectly clean and air conditioned. Only minor negative was the tv which only has BBC world service for English and is really faffy to switch on every time. Special … more

Nice clean friendly hotel just a 10 minute walk from the main tourist area of Madrid. Receptionists were friendly and the rooms were perfectly clean and air conditioned. Only minor negative was the tv which only has BBC world service for English and is really faffy to switch on every time. Special mention to Enzo who worked in the bar and was always exceptionally friendly.

We stayed at the Catalonia Hotel Plaza Mayor for a weekend with friends in Madrid, and even though we obviously spent most of the time outside, sightseeing, I must say we were extremely happy with the hotel we chose. The location is fabulous, within walking distance to major attractions and must-see places, such as Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, San Miguel Market, the Royal Palace and the Cathedral. If you don't feel like walking, the metro station is just a few steps away to reach everywhere. The hotel facilities are very good, there is a cafe/bar on the ground floor and the breakfast room in the lower floor. Rooms are distributed over 5 floors, some of them overlooking the street and others towards an interior courtyard. As we requested a quiet room, we were above the courtyard. The room was hot upon arrival, as the curtains were open and the sun was hitting but after half an hour with the AC on, the temperature was ok. However, inside the bathroom was always excessively warm. Beds are comfortable, rooms have enough space to accommodate two travellers with suitcases and enough wardrobe space. The room was quiet and we had very good sleep. As a courtesy, we got a large bottle of water in the room each day and two welcome drinks, which was really nice! The bathroom is very good-sized, towels, taps and bathroom hardware are good quality and everything works extremely well, plenty of hot and cold water for enjoyable showers. The staff are extremely professional, always ready to assist and provide useful information about the city and the main attractions. Fantastic stay, will happily come back to stay at the Catalonia Plaza Mayor.

Great location, nice hotel, rooms a little loud, staff a little lacking. We arrived early knowing checking is not until 3pm but our flight landed at 9am. At the hotel by 10am having had no sleep on an overnight flight we asked if they could notify us when the room was ready and the reception said it would only be a few hours for a clean room. They said they would email us. We got breakfast and kept waiting to see if they would email us. Started exploring and checking our email. By 2pm we were zombies and walked already 12000 steps jet lagged so went back to the hotel to find our our room was ready hours prior. This was disappointing. The rooms were nice but a little loud. Breakfast was great. The beat part about this hotel is the fantastic location!
