This hotel stands apart from others we stayed in Madrid and Spain in general. Every little detail was perfect. It’s on Gran Via, perfect location. The room was meticulously clean, well appointed with luxurious amenities, terrace is elegant and peaceful, Rosio, the waiter friendly and sweet, the check in and out process and staff fantastic. The building itself is historic and gorgeous. Can’t go wrong staying here. Highly recommended.

“Great Location and superb rooftop bars”

Excellent location and lovely room and two beautiful rooftop bars for a pre dinner drink or a nightcap. We did lots of day trips during our 4 night stay ( El Escorial, Segovia, Toledo) and the hotel is a few mins from Gran Via metro or Sol suburban line station. Excellent location and lovely room and two beautiful rooftop bars for a pre dinner drink or a nightcap. We did lots of day trips during our 4 night stay ( El Escorial, Segovia, Toledo) and the hotel is a few mins from Gran Via metro or Sol suburban line station. A special mention for the lovely waitress who served us at both rooftop bars and for the excellent vfm of the drinks. This would be our first choice hotel when we return to Madrid

I am a little surprised at how highly rated this hotel is on TripAdvisor. The location on the Grand Via is fantastic and the rooms were very clean. However, the staff was a little rude and not very helpful on a few occasions. There was some confusion over our reservation (which I made directly with the hotel) which sent me into a bit of a panic, but they did resolve it. The hotel itself is quite dated. There were glass ashtrays in the rooms, while I didn't smell smoke, this might be an issue for some. The bed was not terribly comfortable. Our a/c the first night was stuck on 16C (61F) and there was just a sheet and thin coverlet. The next night we were able to adjust and the third night there was no option to adjust so it was quite warm. There was also a 4 in step up into the bathroom, which I was certain would kill me in the night. There was a safety night light for that but it was bright all night. Both of our rooms had this. The rooftop bar is not really a bar. The decor is late 90's tuscan and the couple of times I went up there, there was no bartender to be found.

I write this review with a heavy heart; it’s one that I wish I didn’t have to make or post. I would like to make it known that my review of this hotel was going to be five stars until the events that transpired to inspire this novel of a post. My boyfriend and I arrived in Madrid on May 28th, two days before we were supposed to attend the Taylor Swift concert at the Bernabéu. The next day, we went to the stadium to be proactive and buy my merch early so it wouldn’t have to be carried around with me during the concert. We bought two bags of merchandise, both of which were dropped off back into my room when my boyfriend and I got back to the hotel at around 8:10pm. We didn’t leave the room until the next morning to get breakfast, and then that afternoon around 3 to head to the concert. The next day, as we were getting ready to head out and in my search for the concert shirt I wanted to wear, I discovered that one of the bags was missing from it’s spot by my suitcase. We contacted the front desk to ask if they had seen two bags or just one, and the woman who did house keeping to our room during the concert said she only saw one (as translated by my boyfriend). Okay, that felt wrong per my memory and my boyfriend’s memory, but okay. We went downstairs to speak to concierge, as they were already pulling the card logs into our room to see when folks were entering and leaving our rooms. According to the data: it was only us and then housekeeping who are recorded as using a card to enter our room. We also asked to pull cameras. Due to legal reasons, we were told that they cannot pull the cameras pointing at our room, as it sees into another room and would violate privacy laws. I then asked if we could pull the front door cameras to see if we even came back to the hotel with both bags; my train of thought being that if we only came with one bag and since the cleaning staff said she only saw one bag, then the fault lies with us and problem solved, I left it somewhere in Madrid. We went and got food, and upon return, were brought up to the managers office to show the footage. And there, clear as day, was footage of my boyfriend and I entering the hotel with both bags of merchandise, the bag that went missing in my hand, the one that was still there in his. But, you may say, that doesn’t make sense with what the housekeeping lady said that she only saw one bag! That's what I thought as well. In the ensuing conversation (in Spanish, so everything here is as translated by my boyfriend), it would be conveyed to us that a) their staff would not throw out anything that is not in the trash cans and b) they have full faith in their staff, they wouldn’t steal from a client’s room. So to me, this left two conclusions based on all the given information and the strong faith from the hotel in their staff. Either 1. the housekeeping lady accidentally threw it out and doesn’t remember doing so (an honest mistake while frustrating, I understand and would be able to live with, despite the fact that that merchandise bag would have had a decent weight to it) or 2. Someone *Else* got into our room between the time we left for the concert and the time we got back. At this point, I want to make it abundantly clear that I do not think this woman stole anything, I’m of the belief that the bag was accidentally thrown out. However, since the manager is unable to either show us or check the cameras by our room, it does not eliminate the possibility of someone breaking into our room, and if the card logs say that only myself, my boyfriend, and the cleaning staff entered our room, the only conclusion on that end is that someone got in WHILE the room was being cleaned. The first conclusion is an internal correction, the second is a major problem. Frankly, at this point this would have been a higher review even though items had gone missing from my room, if not for the reaction from the manager. As translated by my boyfriend, during the reviewing of footage that showed us returning with two bags of merchandise from the concert, the manager was nitpicking about the size of the bags and how they were two different sized bags (they weren’t), and that we were accusing her staff of stealing (we weren’t, in fact I was and still am of the belief that the staff is entirely innocent in this and that it was an accident or a third party stealing). Not once did I ever think the staff stole from our room. This is a nice hotel, with a very good reputation, and it is a hotel I was very excited to stay in and recommend to my friends. As per the concierge and the manager, nothing like this has ever happened before, and I believe that. I also believe nothing like this will ever happen again. But no matter what any staff member says, the fact of the matter is: we walked into the hotel on the evening of May 29th with two separate bags of merchandise from the Eras Tour, and on the morning of May 31st, one was undoubtedly missing. This review was first written with a solid two stars in mind, and even now as I revise and edit this, I have half a mind to leave it at two. However, the bar tender upstairs single-handedly bumped it to three. After my boyfriend told her (in Spanish of course) of the unfortunate events we had been dealing with regarding the merchandise and the experience with the manager, she gave us her assurance that she herself would ask about and see if there was anything she could do. I didn’t expect this nor do I expect she’ll be able to find anything, but it truly was a spot of sun on a rain cloud of a day. The care and concern from her was very sweet, and was enough to bump it back to three stars. I know the rest of the staff and hotel employees also cared, but that one little interaction was so stand out. I thank her for that deeply. I don’t know what happened to the bag, legally we can’t check the cameras pointing at our room, which I fully understand. The entire trip to Madrid was wonderful, but this puts a dark stain on it, and I, along with any of my friends and family who choose to come to Madrid, and the clients of the travel agency I worked with, will think twice about booking here. Which is a shame, because this hotel is stunning with (mostly) friendly staff. I just wish things had been different.
