Excellent and convenient location: Located a short taxi ride (7 - 10 min and less than 15 Euros) from the the Atocha train station to Madrid or across the street from the Metro, the Gran Via main street is located around the block (2 min away). Across the street is a money exchange store and eyeglass store and to the right is a Pharmacy and casino. Down Gran Via to the left is a Carrefour mini-grocery store/market where you can buy pastries, cheap beer/wine, and bags of snacks. Excellent location. The Royal Palace is a 19 minute, 0.8 mile walk away. Lobby is very inviting with a number of books on the shelves and a bar, a glass of welcome Cava or water, and the front desk staff was very nice. The hotel is from the early 20th century and has an optional metal cage elevator, the kind you see in movies or a modern elevator. The hotel reminded me of the Cafe Bastllo house, not from the furnishings but the hotel room windows open to a courtyard with a sky light at the top that lets fresh air come down. We left both windows open at night for the fresh air. The room has a large white marble sink with plenty of room for all your toiletries and pump soap and lotion. Shampoo, conditioner and gel were in the bathtub with shower attachment. I thought the bathtub, in the area without anti-slip dots and where the anti-slip dots were worn away, a bit slippery, so be careful especially trying to open the shower door into the tub and inch around it to leave. The sink and bath tubs have separate knobs for hot and cold water. For the shower, there is a lever to change the water from going to the tub to the shower head. There was a hairdryer. The bathrobes and slippers were a very elegant touch. The closet rack was very high. I could just touch the hangar with my arm fully extended, and the hangers were the kind that were hooked onto the closet rod although you could slip them off. One luggage rack. The coffee (regular and decaf pods) and creamer and sugar and mini-cookie were a nice touch. I booked the hotel directly and became a member of their hotel program, so we got a box of welcome artisan chocolates and a free cocktail or soft drink in the welcome letter. Bed was comfortable. The one thing I found annoying was having to go between the window curtains and bed; there was not much room. No nightlight in the bathroom, but I just kept the door slightly ajar. We did not opt in for the breakfast buffet which was 22 Euros each. Next door there was a tiny place with some pastries, and the Carrefour market was a short walk away. There were probably other restaurants open for breakfast but we just had gotten a pastry at the Carrefour the night before and had the coffee in the room before catching a taxi to the airport, 30 minutes away. Tip: You can ask the front desk to put you on the list for a taxi at a certain time the next day. We asked for an 8:15 am taxi. There were plenty of other taxis going by, but at least we knew the hotel would call a reputable company. It was 33 Euros to the airport.

Lovely hotel in an excellent location for our first trip to Madrid. The hotel has a lovely reception and bar area and the staff are so helpful and welcoming. The room we were in was not huge but completely fine with beautiful bathroom. Cleaning standards in the hotel are excellent and it was spotless. One tiny thing was the breakfasts which were lovely and great selection but the hot food was always very luke warm. Definitely a great hotel in a great location for a city break.

We spent three nights in this lovely hotel on beautiful Gran Via. The room was bright and attractive, breakfast buffet was varied, lobby was an inviting place to have a drink or relax, the location was great and there was not a lot of street noise. But the stand-out feature was the staff at the reception desk. These cheerful, competent young women (all of whom spoke great English) uniformly went out of their way to anticipate our needs and solve our problems. We will certainly return here if we're back in Madrid!

Lovely reception and bar area - loved the old fashioned cage lift - there is a modern one too. Hotel room very small with no mirror or window in the room although we were in the most basic room - our choice. However this did complicate things when getting ready as the only mirror was in bathroom which didn’t have an extractor fan so it steamed up. The shower was over bath - which wasn’t a problem for us, however there was no rail to hold on to when getting out - could be an issue for some no where to hold getting out. Complementary water each day was a nice touch as was the Nespresso machine with pods Great central location on Grand Via and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Lots of great restaurants nearby- spoilt for choice Great breakfast- lots of choice, never ran out. However it is the staff who make this hotel - they are all polite and friendly and every member of staff we encountered spoke to us every day. Highly recommend for a stay in Madrid
