“Character Hotel”

A charming place to stay, right in the centre of Montejaque. Was delighted with the way every attention to ensure we had a delightful stay was taken care of. The room was clean and beds very comfortable. Breakfast was provided at a time we decided. Excellent value ! Many thanks Juan !

First of all, the proper name (or maybe the new name?) of this hotel is Hotel Placete de Manara. I found it online completely by chance, as I was searching for a place to stay near the wonderful Pileta Caves (which are actually closer to the neighbouring village, but that's only a question of a few minutes by car). We arrived before the check-in time of 2pm and there wasn't anyone there (so don't arrive early unless you've arranged it). That wasn't a problem; we checked out the lovely village and found a place to eat. The village and the surrounding landscape are gorgeous; the twisting little streets of the Muslim old town are fascinating, and the boulder strewn countryside is fascinating. The hotel is located on the main square which, when we were there at the end of September, was completely quiet (although it did rain in the evening, so the tables in front of the neighbouring restaurant were empty). You can't park on the square, although you can drive into it and drop off your luggage at the hotel. In spite of the No Parking or Stopping sign, no one seems to be bothered by this. Street parking is easy to find. Our room was large and very simple, with a window overlooking the square. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was unusually roomy. Also unusual for Spain, a generous breakfast was included in the price of the room. There is a swimming pool at the back of the property, although by the time we were there it had closed for the season. Keep in mind that Montejaque is a small village which pretty well shuts down in the afternoon from 2 to 5. There is at least one bank machine, but the bank itself is open for only a few hours a week. There are several places to eat, and several small grocery stores. The tourist info also seems to be open for only a few hours a week. I imagine it's busier in the summer, for the area seems to be popular with hikers, birders and, in the fall, mushroom pickers (the owner of the hotel has written a book on the local mushrooms). If you are looking for a quiet, very Spanish village and a lovely little hotel, this is the place to stay!

“A good three star hotel in small pueblo.”

The hotel is situated in the heart of Montejaque and is accessible by car although no parking is allowed nearby. It is an average three star hotel with friendly helpfull staff. Montejaque is really quiet but is ideally situated for touring the surrounding Serania de Ronda.
