“Basic accomodation!”

We picked this hotel because the rooftop terrace looked very appealing, only to find that it was closed for building works! There was nothing 'superior' about the superior apartment, it was very basic. There was a coffee machine with little supplies and no instructions on how to use it. No waste bin in the main room, no washing up liquid, not even a cloth to wipe the surfaces down after use. The staff were friendly enough but I really expected more from the 'superior' apartment.

Attractive old building in convenient old-town location, close to marina, castle & many good bars/restaurants. However the hotel itself was poorly modernised in parts & the s/c apartment we had on 5th floor was quite inadequate for self-catering. For this standard of hotel, the bathroom was a big disappointment: poor water pressure; slippery shower floor; bathroom door only opened half-way - which cut the already small room in half; hairdryer inconveniently screwed to wall - as in a budget hotel; inadequate/inaccessible ventilation. The rest of apartment was OK but a bit ‘tired’ in places. The large terrace had NO SHADE & NO PRIVACY from noisy rooftop bar above. The kitchen/dining/terrace areas would have been spacious enough to cook/eat comfortably, but the many cupboards were empty, with minimal equipment provided; just enough IKEA stuff to prepare a simple breakfast - with not even a chopping board, salad bowl or a pair of kitchen scissors! No way to wash anything up - sink had no bung or bowl, no tablets for dishwasher (which also said it lacked rinse aid). Kettle & coffee pod machine provided but no supplies - unlike the Occidentale (where we stayed just before, in an ordinary room). Freezer had no ice cube tray & needed defrosting so badly that its drawers would barely open. Greasy-looking/smelling tea towel. Bed comfortable, plenty of clothes storage, but the laundered sheet still had someone else's long black hair on it. During our stay there was a lot of intrusive daytime building noise eg loud & frequent buzzers in the street below In short: a very poorly equipped s/c apartment, with no view. Rooftop bar had good views - of the castle & of our terrace!
