We stayed 12 nights in a Deluxe Suite of 40m2 on the 5th floor in October 2024. Our room had a view of Tygerberg. We were fortunate to see a clear sunrise and sunset. We had an unexpected power cut only once during our stay. It happened during breakfast which is on the mezzanine level. We had to take the stairs up to our room on the 5th floor. Since we left for the day, the power cut did not bother us that much. When we left for the day, a gentleman staff kindly recommended us to take the staff lift to get down instead of taking the stairs. Pros: Location - a mere 5 mins walk from Canal Walk which is very convenient for shoppers. The staff kindly showed us the shorcut to go to Canal Walk. Canal walk much better for shopping than the waterfront. Toiletries and tea/coffee duly replenished every day. Buffet breakfast staff at the Mozambik very caring, attentive and courteous, especially Amy. We once had to leave early for our tour and the reception staff was kind enough to arrange for a take away breakfast pack at short notice. In the breakfast pack, there was yogurt with muesli, some biscuits with butter, 1 muffin and 1 sandwich. 24 hour check in. We arrived at the hotel at 23.00 and check in was very swift. Large room of 40m2 - deluxe suite Free coffee machine and coffee pods on every floor near the elevator. 2 complimentary water bottles on arrival. A woolworths, a vidae cafe and a clicks pharmacy next door. The room has a kitchen area with a small fridge, a kitchen sink and a kitchen tabletop. A few non paired cutleries (not enough for two people) and some dishwashing liquid are provided as well. Cons: The bed was not what we would call a large bed. It was a mere 1m60 width bed, which was way too small for us. The carpet in the bedroom was not properly vacuumed. Too much dust in the room and on the furniture. Allergic people please stay away! We had a deluxe suite of 40m2. Don't know who designed the room but it clearly needs a complete makeover and a good refurb. The room seems to have been designed for a single person. The bed is by definition small for two people. The whole room in itself is big but the living room takes half the space causing the bedroom to be cramped for two people. The space could have been used in a more efficient manner. The bed does not even have 2 bedside tables. The furniture is in dire need for refurb. Lack of charging points. Please be mindful that sockets are SA norms. Only one charging point was 2-pin and away from the bedside. So, charging the phone was quite hectic. Was bitten twice in the bed by what we thought could be bed bugs until we killed a small spider in the bed. I still have remaining marks on my skin 2 weeks later. The TV in the bedroom had hardly any channels to watch - only CNN for international news. There is another TV in the living room but with limited channels too. The bathroom design is another mess. The toilet and the shower are together in a cubicle. The toilet is in a big pool of water after every shower. The wash basin is outside the shower/toilet area and is literally in the bedroom next to the bed and the bath tub. Water evacuation in the wash basin was very slow. Wash basin was too small and water kept splashing outside. Lack of storage space for all our belongings. Lighting in the storage space was not working. The lighting was very poor in the room. Difficult to read at night. Lighting switch was a nightmare. No central switch for lighting. We ended up having to go several times around the room to switch off all the lights every time. The bed linen did not seem to have been changed regularly though we stayed 12 nights. Buffet breakfast at the Mozambik was exactly the same every single day during 12 days. It would have been appreciated to have some variation. Cleanliness at the Mozambik needs some improvement. Recurring lack of plates, bowls etc for service. Plates and bowls of all types & sizes being used. The breakfast area can become very busy at times when the hotel welcomes some big groups. The breakfast has a live egg station. We had a 90 mins ZAR 1800 swedish couple massage at the hotel spa during our stay. The hotel spa is small and can accommodate only two people at the same time. It is situated on the 4th floor. The massage in itself was okayish although I was disturbed by a ringing phone during my massage. When we finished our massage, the massage therapist rather abruptly demanded payment. We told her that we had booked through the hotel and were therefore expecting to have to settle at check out. Just in case we would run away, we were immediately escorted to the reception area to proceed with payment whilst still being in an oily state! The hotel is a mere 15 mins by car from the waterfront but be mindful that with the morning traffic, it takes around 40 mins for that same trip. An Uber X from the hotel to the waterfront is around ZAR 150-160 per way. Do ensure that you buy a South African SIM Card. We purchased a Vodacom SIM Card with 2GB data at ZAR 99 at the Canal Walk Vodacom outlet. It is cheaper than at the airport. The mobile data was largely enough for uber for a two weeks's stay. Our return flight was late at night and we planned to leave the hotel at 19.00. The normal hotel check out time is 11.00. When we requested if we could have a late check out, we were told that we would have to pay some ZAR 1,030 representing half the price of the room. We eventually elected to pay some ZAR 400 for a late check out until 16.00 (representing ZAR 100 per hour from noon to 16.00). Given that we had spent a non negligible amount of nights at the hotel (12 nights), we were disappointed that the hotel did not show some consideration to extend our late check out. An Uber XL from the hotel to the airport is around ZAR 200.
