Though this hotel had strong reviews we were still pleasantly surprised by how nice a stay we had. It started when we arrived with the super friendly and helpful doorman. The hotel is well appointed with some nice public spaces inside and outside. It is in a good location only about a 10 minute walk to the center of old town and even closer to the Danube. Our room while not big was quite lovely. Well furnished and with complimentary beer, wine & soda from the mini-bar. A very unusual touch. The air conditioning worked well which is always a plus in Europe. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of items and most importantly it was built into the room rate which was quite reasonable. Highly recommend this hotel.

“Would book again”

Really lovely hotel, nicely furnished and a relaxing atmosphere. Location was great. Just outside the old city but withing walking distance to everything. Mini bar in the room was disappointing. The beer was awful (I saw this later for 70c in the shop!) And the wine wasn't much better. Room… more

Really lovely hotel, nicely furnished and a relaxing atmosphere. Location was great. Just outside the old city but withing walking distance to everything. Mini bar in the room was disappointing. The beer was awful (I saw this later for 70c in the shop!) And the wine wasn't much better. Rooms tidied daily. Shower was a bath shower which for me as a 5'3" person was difficult to get in and out of so thankfully they had bars to hold on to. Shower was warm with strong water pressure. Beds were really comfortable so we had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was lovely with a wide range of food available. They gave us a breakfast bag on the morning we were leaving which was also very nice and appreciated. Staff were very nice also.

“5 Star Rating…except for the rooms. But still the best place to stay.”

The hotel is clearly 5 stars due to the common areas, spa, restaurant (amazing), and service (what you would expect at a 5 star hotel) But the rooms and breakfast buffet were not 5 star. The hotel is clearly 5 stars due to the common areas, spa, restaurant (amazing), and service (what you would expect at a 5 star hotel) But the rooms and breakfast buffet were not 5 star. Hence I cannot give this a 5 star rating. So before going into my review, I want to say that I would definitely recommend staying here, for the common areas, amenities, location, restaurant (not the buffet) and service…..but the rooms could use an overhaul...as in tear all the rooms out and reconfigure and remodel. When you walk into a hotel room and go … ugh…its not a good sign. This was our 6th and last hotel on our trip, and we did not say “ugh” for any other room. and I have reviewed a lot of hotels over the years. If this was not a high end hotel, my expectations would not be as high, but it is, and the room should match the rating and the rest of the hotel. The hotel is an old style hotel, with very nice “grand hotel” type common areas, very well maintained and fitting for a 5 star hotel. The rooms on the other hand are not up to the rating. I would have trouble giving the rooms a 4 star rating. maybe 3.5. On the other hand, the bed was comfortable, and ultimately that is what matters. We had a premium room, but it was smaller than what I consider a standard room in most hotels (cannot imagine what a standard room in this hotel would be like) We had to move some furniture around to have room just to open suitcases. But not much room to do anything in the room. Although it had a good desk, and plugs in the right locations to charge all our gadgets. The bathroom was also tiny, although it did have a good ledge to put stuff. I realize its probably old soviet building with small rooms. And while they could use a refurbishing, frankly, I think they need to overhaul the layout of the floors the rooms are on consider a total remodel of the floors with the rooms to make them larger, larger bathrooms and modern. You can still decorate it in keeping with the style of the hotel, but bigger and better. Wifi was weak. Would go in and out. Fortunately I always bring a wifi booster with me , but that wont help the inconsistent service. The breakfast buffet was pretty basic. Eggs, some meats, various local spreads for your bread, but it lacked crossants, roles, pies, cakes, pastries etc. Lots of breads however. If they offered any extras from the kitchen (omelets, French toast, waffles etc), we were not aware of it nor saw anyone with anything other than was at the buffet. Most of the buffets There is parking in the building (I think it was $30 a night). The location is a short walk to the main square and old town (the hotel is a tad on the outskirts of the old town but easily accessible by car) As I said, the staff was great. Everyone from the front desk, to the concierge, to the waiters and even the maid made our room almost as fast as we put out the “clean our room” sign. As we had a lot of rain when we were there, so much so that we could not go outside, staying in the room was not an option. But, the bar/library room was wonderful with lots of tables and chairs, and available plugs for my computer. Unfortunately the hotel restaurant is not open for lunch every day (just on weekends I think). The restaurant, Houdini, is superb. Food, atmosphere and service. We loved it so much we ate their twice. The website photos of the hotel, not the rooms, are indicative of the hotel. The pictures of the rooms however are not what the rooms look like. And you will notice that on their website, they don’t show the bathrooms. Overall, would I stay here again? Yes.

The hotel is very dated and tired looking, the restaurant serves good food, room wise we were in a premier room, I’ll be honest there was nothing premier about it, the mattresses are 20+ years old and very uncomfortable, I’m 6’4 and used a chair at the end of my bed as they are so small, cleanlines… more

The hotel is very dated and tired looking, the restaurant serves good food, room wise we were in a premier room, I’ll be honest there was nothing premier about it, the mattresses are 20+ years old and very uncomfortable, I’m 6’4 and used a chair at the end of my bed as they are so small, cleanliness was poor in the room nothing dusted and the bathroom not cleaned properly. I would not rate this hotel at 5 star maybe 3 at a push, would not stay here again
