Stunning hotel in the grounds of Castelo Sao George retaining its historic charm. The rooms were very comfortable and we had daily visits from the peacocks on our balcony. The breakfast was a real highlight with a great variety and there were also freshly baked cakes in the afternoons with tea and coffee, as well as sparkling wine in the evenings. The staff were extremely friendly and made our stay. I would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Lisbon.

The beautifully restored 18th-century mansion retains its historical character while providing modern comforts. The intimate courtyard, with its trickling fountain and resident peacocks, created a serene atmosphere—an oasis in the heart of bustling Lisbon. The rooms were elegant and cozy, featuring thoughtful details that honored the building’s heritage. Despite the historic setting, the amenities were top-notch, with comfortable bedding, a well-appointed bathroom, and all the necessary conveniences for a relaxing stay. Breakfast was a highlight, served in a charming dining area with a selection of fresh pastries, fruits, and local delicacies. The complimentary port wine and pastel de nata in the lounge each afternoon were a delightful touch. The staff were outstanding—warm, welcoming, and eager to share their knowledge about the city. They provided excellent recommendations and made us feel truly at home. The location is unbeatable for those who appreciate history and stunning views. While the walk up to the castle can be a bit steep, it’s absolutely worth it for the tranquility and unique setting away from the tourist crowds. The location of this hotel is right under the castle, which gives the stay a unique feeling. The courtyard of the hotel is always full of peacocks. You will be welcomed by a very helpful reception. They will even arrange a transfer directly to the hotel from the airport. During your stay you can taste traditional pastels de nata and prosecco or port wine. The breakfast were great. The hotel also has its own small museum. I definitely recommend.

“Oasis of calm in a magical setting”

Stayed for a week of winter sun. Magical location, an oasis of calm on the top of the hill. Our room 10 had views out over the castle and its gardens. Stayed for a week of winter sun. Magical location, an oasis of calm on the top of the hill. Our room 10 had views out over the castle and its gardens. The peacocks were beautiful and highly entertaining. Wonderful, friendly and helpful people in the hotel that give it a family run feel. Lovely little touches with the complimentary food and drinks plus a magical carafe of port in the bedroom that refills every morning. Several great restaurants within walking distance, we liked Clara’s and Farol for the food and Chapito’s for the food plus amazing view ( book an inside table). You will need to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for the hills and cobbles. We used the excellent public transport system and the occasional taxi to minimise the impact on our feet. Superb choice at breakfast to set you up for the day. Grab a quick coffee and go early to visit the castle when it opens and then come back for breakfast to avoid the crowds.
