We had a large room on the top floor with two doors opening on to a small balcony overlooking the street. Street was pretty quiet except for some late night revelers, but sound proofing was very good. Nice bathroom, comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices (breads, sweet rolls and cakes, cheeses, meats, fruits, and you could request eggs. Lobby and breakfast area charming and welcoming. Staff extremely helpful with information on buses and trolleys, as well as restaurants in the area. They provided us with sandwiches for an early morning departure.

“Memorable stay”

Beautiful hotel. My daughter and I stayed there at the end of July 2023. We each had a small double If you like space or are sharing a room i would personally say pick one of the bigger rooms. The small double is what it says. There isn't much space to walk round it, just enough space to walk round the bed. That was the only slight negative Check in/check out Really quick and easy the staff give you a map which includes some recommendations for restaurants in the area and their location in relation to the hotel. We needed a taxi our last day to go out to the LX Factory (well worth a visit) and also to take us to the airport all arranged for us by the lovely staff and the taxi company even rang ahead of time to let us know our taxi to the airport was on its way which was really reassuring. Room Very clean Bed very comfortable. We stayed in 3 hotels during our week stay and it had the best pillows. There is a safe in the room the one in my room fitted to the wall and doubled up as a bedside table. There was a small wardrobe built into the wall, we were only there for 3 nights so used the bench for my case, there was enough room for my case and to put my clothes out for the day. Water and glasses provided in the room. There is no fridge but the air con is really good so was able to keep the room really cool and my drinks didn't get too warm. I was in room 8 on the 2nd floor. The room is on the back of the building, has a lovely set of doors that open onto a small balcony with the most amazing view. There are shutters if you like a dark room i left the shutters open as loved the view and light coming through the muslin curtains in the early morning as the sun rose. You do get a bit of noise from guests opening doors but other than that I hardly heard anything. There is no TV in the room my daughter said she had read that you can request one before arrival we didn't ask about it and it was actually a nice change not to have one. Bathroom Small but not cramped well equipped. Had hand wash, body lotion and shampoo so if you don't bring your own you will just need conditioner as that wasn't provided. Great sized towels. The shower was amazing always hot water available and the water pressure probably one of the best I have experienced. There are no lifts in the hotel so a few flights of stairs and communal space on lower ground floor. We had quite large suitcases as away for the week but staff more than happy to help carry the case to the room for you if you need it. I did as i do struggle a bit with stairs so it was really appreciated. Breakfast Breakfast was really lovely considering as well it being a really small hotel there was great choice. It was in the communal area on the lower ground floor. There was a good selection of breads, rolls were so fresh, croissants, meat, cheese, fruit, cereals, jams and a lovely orange cake. Water, freshly squeezed orange juice. There was also tea and coffee, I can't comment on those as don't drink hot drinks. Access to the communal living room/dining room is available all day. Reception is also there for checking in etc. They also have an honesty bar. Originally i thought it was just for the selection of spirits on a tray but there is a list of drinks and charges and you tick what you have and your room number and it is added to your bill. There was a choice of wine,beer and soft drinks, which could be found in the fridge in the kitchen, really cold just what was needed after a day out wandering the city in the sunshine. There was also complimentary fruit, cake and water available. The room is decorated with some really interesting furniture and decorative items, there are books, travel guides available and also some toiletries and things to buy. Soft music playing in the background, comfortable sofas, just what you need after being out and about all day, so relaxing. The staff are lovely and just the right level of attentiveness. We were going out on a trip so asked about breakfast before the start time of 8am and it was not a problem at all she explained to us what would likely be available to us at that time. I think the only thing not ready was the croissants. I can also vouch for the orange juice being freshly squeezed on site as they were preparing it when we went for early breakfast. Location Hotel is quite high up in the Bairro Alto area so it is quite a challenge walking to/from the lower areas in the city and it is on quite a narrow street which some taxi drivers struggled to find my daughter had to direct them at one point and our driver for our trip parked on the next street over as he wasn't sure if his vehicle would get down the street. Staff were helpful showing us the best route to walk down to the river front avoiding some of the steeper streets. There are some small convenience stores within a few minutes walk of the hotel if you want to pick up bottled water etc and there are a good number of bars and restaurants within 10 minutes walk with very few climbs, if you want a break from climbing too many hills after being out and about all day. Walk to the Rua Sao Pedro De Alcântara there is a lovely area to sit on benches under trees for shade and there were huts selling alcohol and soft drinks and things. Next to it is a funicular tram (we didn't use the trams etc during our visit). There is a park within walking distance with bars. We ate at the Lost Inn restaurant book an outside table, really cool seating area overlooking the city great for watching the sun set. Food great but don't be in a rush as service goes at quite a relaxed speed. We sat down at 8.15pm and were there for at least 2 hours just 2 of us. Whilst in Lisbon we also did Hop on/hop off bus-there are 4 different routes I personally wouldn't bother with the blue route unless there is somewhere specifically on the route you want to go to as not a lot to see goes through the more modern part/industrial part of the city. Belem Arc De Rua Augusta-a nice break from all the hills, down near the riverside with shops and bars behind the arch. There were taxis waiting there if needed (my legs finally giving out after 7 days of hills in Lisbon and Porto the taxis were a welcome sight) Day trip to Sintra Had an amazing day trip just 6 of us on the tour, we had thought about doing the trip ourselves on the train but we wouldn't have seen as much as we did, arrive at the best times and get door to door service so definitely worth the money. LX Factory, Camden in the sunshine feel about it. It is well worth a visit but a bit of a way out from the city centre. We got a taxi and managed to find a taxi back from the hospital nearby. Lovely selection of bars, shops, restaurants and market selling clothes, jewellery, art etc Tasca Baldracca a really great restaurant, it is tiny so definitely recommend booking and about a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Great atmosphere, food, artwork and the hosts are really exceptional you sense the love for their business. I think would be even more enjoyable if there are a group of you. Getting to Lisbon Just to add we travelled in to Lisbon from Porto. It was easy booking the tickets online (although it then asked for the tickets to be printed which fortunately the hotel we were staying in supported with) . Cost around €70-80 euros for 2 of us first class. Definitely worth it. Was a lovely comfortable journey from the Campanha station in Porto to Santa Apolonia station Lisbon. About 3.5 hours (no changes). Taxi available outside to take us to hotel as too far to walk. Biggest challenge was the step off/on the train to platform a bit steep and scary especially with a heavy suitcase. A gentleman kindly helped us off the train. I did find the hills a particular challenge, I am not very fit and my knees and ankles know I have walked up and down all those hills but there are options to get round the city so you don't have to walk everywhere and although it was a challenge for me I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Das Janelas, Lisbon and Porto, such a beautiful country, everyone was friendly and welcoming and was lovely to have a city break in the sunshine.

“Great stay, homely!”

I realy had a great stay. In the smallest room but nice interior with care and an eye for details. Also a small balcony and airco. Perfect bed and pillows! Before i was even there i got an email wich made me feel real welcome. Its realy a Casa, made me feel at home. Also nice location. Only 10 mi… more

Before i was even there i got an email wich made me feel real welcome. Its realy a Casa, made me feel at home. Also nice location. Only 10 minutes walk, up high, to a verry pretty view all over the city and a part of the river. The staff is also nice and helpfull.
